    resealing a tank

You do not have to take apart the tank. The silicone holding the glass planes in place acts as an adhesive. The secondary seam inside the tank acts as a sealant. If the plate of glass covering the hole is on the inside of the tank (as I imagine it would be) rather than the outside and there is...

Will the 180 gallon tank I built leak/break once I fill it?

Tanks are not built this way. The inside seam acts as a sealant not an adhesive. The tank will leak before it's even full. Sorry to rain on your parade, but I would sell/scrap the tank and look for a used one on craigs list. Even if you disassemble the tank and re-silicone everything the edges...

    GE Silicone I for resealing?

From what I've heard they no longer include "safe for aquariums," etc on the label due to liability issues (I assume they did this at one time or another years ago?) Maybe that's what you're referring to? If you're resealing anything above a 55 I'd skip GE Window & Door and go with the...

    20g reef set up

With that size tank you may be able to get away without a sump/skimmer and a low fish load with just a few power heads. Have you looked at the overflow kits from glass-holes.com ? Their overflow boxes are fairly narrow and wouldn't take up much room in a 20L. You say some kind of sump or...

    First time SW tank ideas

Are you factoring in head loss with those pump sizes? Take a look at this overflow design. It may give you ideas. BeanAnimal's Bar and Grill - Silent and Fail-Safe Overflow System Will this be a reef tank? FOWLR? Once you answer those questions you'll better be able to decide how much flow...

    DIY Divider

Egg crate. It's located in the ceiling tile/light louver area in HD/Lowes. Roughly $12 for a 24" x 36" sheet. Cut it with tin snips or just use a hack saw and hack away. Be careful though, plastic shards will be flying everywhere when you cut it. This is probably your cheapest option. Not...

    canopy for 55 gal tank

It depends on what type of lighting you're putting in there. CFLs? T5s? MHs? Go from there. Should be relatively easy to build with a few 1 x 6s, screws, and hinges. Paint the inside flat white, coat it with polyurethane, and you're done.

Patching a Hole in a tank

I agree with Pat8you. Go with the bulkhead + PVC cap route. If you decide you want a sump in the future for a reef or whatever it will be much easier on you. If you patch it now, you'll kick yourself in the future. If you decide to silicone a piece of glass/acrylic over it though, be sure to...

DIY Stand for 20g long - with pics

Pocket screws or you can use another 2 x 4 or 1 x 4 as a "screw strip". It spans the length of the top box and the legs (covers the gap... would only need to be say 10" long or so). Screw screws into the top box and legs, that way the "screw strip" holds them in place. I just built a stand for...

    Resealing a leaky hex

Acetone (nail polish remover) or isopropyl alcohol will help remove the old silicone. Razor blades and a lot of elbow grease will get the majority of it off. Masking tape/painter's tape will help create a border to the silicone. Of course, you want to remove before the silicone starts to harden...

Made a poor choice buying this fish tank...

The only gripe I have about buying used is I tend to avoid buying "complete setups." There's no point in buying a used setup if I'm not going to use the whisper power filter, the hang on heater, or the under gravel filter and end up buying new ones anyway (Submersible heater, aqua clear, etc)...

    Food for Convicts

I wouldn't bother with raw/cooked beef. You're best off feeding freshwater/cichlid flakes. Or, if they're bigger, you might want to go w/ cichlid pellets. They'll also devour frozen blood worms. I prefer the Omega brand dry foods. And a 50g packet of frozen blood worms will last you a while.

    Ebay or Aquabid for equipment?

I'm near the DE line. I thought about listing the items separately here at AA, but figured they'd get more exposure if I put them on ebay or aquabid (I don't know if thats the case, maybe I'm wrong). And if I did that I could put a link to the auctions on here somewhere, or just talk to...
