    T5 question

This is not for a reeftank or light hungry plants. I am just confused by the lengths of the tubes...the HO ones say 45" which is the length I am looking for, but not the right wattage. The SO (standard output) tubes are 48" (3" too long) but the correct wattage (28w.) Any input?

    T5 question

Hi, I have a T5 fixture from Home depot. The bulbs are too yellow and I'd like to replace them with a bulb that has a pinkish hue. My fixture is not HO, but the bulbs are 45" long. The fixture takes 2x 28 watt bulbs. I've been looking at bulbs online and the HO bulbs are 45" long but the...

Freezing Bulk flake and pellet food

Hi, I buy fish food in bulk and want to know the best way to store it long term. I have bought and am storing: Sinking pellets Carnivore floating pellets Tetramin Flake Turtle pellets Spirulina discs Is freezing dry fish food for long term storage a good idea? Does it degrade certain...

    Automatic drip water change system

I spoke to the guy at Jehmco today. He recommended putting the bulkhead on the side about half way up the glass. The preferred method is to use a threaded bulkhead and a steet L fitting and a standpipe. Then you just turn the street L fitting with the standpipe 180 degrees (from standing...

    Automatic drip water change system

Thanks for the response. I am on well water. I agree, the article gives very little information. I think the drip system is simplest, because I don't need to worry about storing or changing the temperature of the new water. I tend to agree with you about just using a siphon for keeping the...

    Automatic drip water change system

Hi, I am turning my garage into a fishroom. I am currently designing my automatic drip water changing system. The intake water drip will be relatively simple: I have already split off a T from my home cold water system, at a place before the water goes into the whole house water softener...

    choosing sponge filters

Yes. I plan to get a linear piston air pump, as the number of tanks grows. However, I want to start seeding some sponge filters in my established 75g tank right away using a smaller air pump. I am considering this pump: http://www.jehmco.com/html/lph45.html or this one...

    choosing sponge filters

Hi, Can anyone recommend a particular sponge filter to buy in bulk? I am setting up my fishroom, and plan to use air to move and filter water. I saw this on ebay but really can't say if they are good or not. LARGE AQUARIUM WEIGHTED BIO-SPONGE FILTERS BREEDER - 10 - eBay (item 170236489068 end...

    "Runaway" hardness and water softeners

This is very useful. Thanks! How about discus? I've heard that you can display discus (but not breed them) in hard water, particularly if you buy them from a dealer who raises them in hard water. Is this true? I would do regular large water changes and keep temperature high. Could I do it...

    "Runaway" hardness and water softeners

In this area most of the fish at the LFS are adapted to harder water (it's very common to have hard water here.) So now I just have some angels, livebearers, corys, plecos, giant danio, convicts, and a large arowana. The arowana is by himself in a 180g, but I am looking to get a bigger tank...

    "Runaway" hardness and water softeners

Hi, I have a couple of questions regarding water hardness. We have well water which is very hard (400 TDS.) I don't use an RO filter for my makeup water--instead I try to choose fish which can tolerate hardwater. We have a water softener for the house, but I use water which has not passed...
