Ok, that's comforting, thank you for your reassurance. I've this guy for about 9 months or so and this is all new behavior. Maybe since his friend died he's starting to act like a bichir... I'll keep an eye on him and keep you posted. The other fish don't seem to be acting any differently, so...
I've been watching my dinosaur bichir closely recently to make sure it's getting better. Today, I noticed that it's "hutch backed". It wobbles as it swims and half the back length of it's tail hangs, as if it's paralyzed. Any idea what's going on? Is it a parasite? Is it depressed, acting...
That's a good idea, thanks! I was thinking about adding something else to the tank as far hiding places but I didn't want to overcrowd the scenery. The bichir is only about 5" long. The plecko is fairly small, measuring roughly 12"-14". I used to have drift wood in the tank but took it out...
Well, he's in a tank with 3 convicts, a peacock eel, 2 Raphael catfish and a plecko. Basically, I try to accommodate all of them. I feed them a mixer of blood worm pellets, shrimp pellets and floating cichlid pellets with ghost shrimp twice a month
Hello,
It's been a while since I've been on here. I've made a few upgrades to my tank in the last year, then we moved. When I installed the aquarium in the new house, my bichir was acting weird after about a week. It hangs out at the surface behind the canister snorkel. It only comes from there...
I'm not sure which kind it is. The clerk showed me a shark and an algae eater. The algae eaters looked a little like guppies, they were gold with black stripe and extremely fast, which would be suitable for the cichlids and goby.
I read on here earlier today that plecos will effectually stop...
Really, I'm lucky I happened to stumble upon it. I've considered adding another bottom feeder since there's more ground to cover. I was told that an algae eater would pick up the slack from the pleco and also help with food clean up. I have 2 cat fish for that purpose alone.
If I added an...
Mine goes through phases where it doesn't appear to eat for a while, never all day though. It'll lay on the gravel bed for hours sometimes. I used to be concerned it was dead.
What I've learned here, it's almost always about the water quality. I would suggest testing it. Pet stores do it for...
I give my pleco a wafer every few days. It's just a personal preference for me though. I noticed that it wouldn't eat all of it sometimes too, and it'd just let the other fish take it.
Does it eat off the glass still?
Thanks to this site, I've learned a lot about keeping fish. I'd like to send a thank you out to all who gave me advice and who wrote forums for myself to read and get ideas.
I was told before that my 35 gal was overstocked, so I finally got a hold of a 75 gal and the water hasn't been more...
I have a knight goby that has been doing great for the last 5 months. A couple days ago, when while feeding, I noticed a white lump on it's head. It shares a tank with 4 other cichlids (I know now that it's breaking the rules). Anyway, I lost a knife fish due to a diagnosis of fungal infection...
