My Tanks
I'm a rookie. I did have an aquarium when I was twenty something so I'm vaguely familiar with aquarium lingo and problems but I still classify myself as a rookie. I have what I call "ponds" in my yard. They are nothing more than various sized wine barrels. One is a full sized barrel rainwater catch from the roof water (we're in California) and the other 3 make up a fun rustic fountain water feature deal. Full size, half size and 1/4 size barrels are positioned with spouts that pour into each other. The bottom (1/4 barrel) has a pump--no filtration to suck up water to the top barrel which overflows to the middle one ect. I keep goldfish in them for my kids and to eat the mosquito larvae. The occasional polliwog finds it's way in them as well. I also have water hyacinths ( I think) floating in each, but not in the rainwater catch. I do not feed the fish in my "ponds", they eat the algae and bugs. But waste, leaves and the occasional bird fall in them over the years and create this mucky
