I went to my LFS yesterday and met a great new salesperson who took a lot of time to talk to me about all the different fish I could add to my tank at this point.
While speaking with him I realized that my Damsels may be too territorial and aggressive for the tank I want to create. The...
I am happy to report that I was at the LFS today and had my water checked and they basically got the same results as I did. Everything is fine except I have a tiny bit of Ammonia (not quite zero). I'll go easy on the food for the next few days and everything should be ok.
I'm thinking of...
I haven't noticed any excess mucus production. How would I see that? BTW, did you see my other post on "feather duster suicide"? Just wondering if this could be related.
What do you recommend that I add to their diet? I'll see if I can get a better nitrite kit although the solution was very pale, if not completely transparent, so I assume the amount of nitrite is very low. The damsels mostly chase each other; the clown often swims "in open water" -- without...
Got the clown May 12. Haven't checked phosphate level -- need to buy that test kit. Feeding the fish mostly frozen mysis shrimp and some Spectrum from time to time. I feed once a day. Sometimes (mostly week-ends) twice a day, smaller portions. See tank info in signature. I'll try to post...
I tested the water today to make sure I'd give you recent figures: Sal: 1.0235, 77.5 F, pH 8.2, Nitrite: less than .15 (lowest my test tube will show), Nitrate: less than 10 (lowest my test tube will show), Ammonia: 0.
I've had my clownfish for about 2 to 3 weeks now. For some reason the orange is much less bright than before, getting greyish. What happened? Can I do something? Is it sick?
I bought a feather duster a week ago. Everything seemed fine for the first few days -- the feathers were out of the tube quite often. Two days ago, I noticed that the feathers were at the bottom of the tank, between two rocks. I was wondering if the worm had jumped out of its shell, been...
You've convinced me -- I'll get a smaller tank to start with. I'm still puzzled (although increasingly convinced) by the fact that you are only using live rocks and sand to keep the water clean... Is there a limit to the size of the tank that I can have with no filter or skimmer? 20G? 30G? 40G?
Thank you guys for your quick replies. I'll look into getting the largest tank I can but will stay on the small side (somewhere between 35 and 45 gal).
Reefrunner69, what do you mean exactly by "smaller tanks are more work"? You have to clean more often? Check/change the water more often...
I just came back from a very good specialty fish store. I went there resigned to buy myself a small freshwater tank since, after much research, it looked too costly and complicated to buy and set up a tank of at least 55 gal to start my first saltwater aquarium (which is really what I want...)...
