I know there are a lot of very knowledgeable people here. But, it just seems like everyone wants to step on other people. In my opinion, after keeping an Oscar in a 40 gallon (he's in a 55 now that he's bigger), one Oscar is fine in a 50 gallon. I DID say that the OP may have to upgrade.
I'm...
I give up. Who cares that I kept an oscar in a 40 breeder for three months. My nitrates weren't out of control! I speak from experience. Honestly, that is what I do not like about this forum! Everyone thinks that each fish is supposed to have a 100000000 gallon tank!
OP, you can keep an Oscar...
I am the head admin of Aquarium FINatics, a large fish community on facebook. They would agree with me. You are the conservative type of fish keeper. You think every fish should have a 5000000 gallon tank. ONE Oscar in a 50 gallon tank, with one 50-70% WC a week is FINE, anything less 50 gallons...
I disagree. Just keep up on your water changes and it's fine.
My lutino isn't stunted, I've done 40-50 percent WCs every week :) not all oscars get to be monster huge. In fact, you can read on several other Oscar forums that say that an oscar's growth can plateau. Besides, 40-50 nitrates in 7...
Here's the big guy. He's about 6 inches:
Here's the little guy with tinfoil barbs:
55 gallon- 1 tiger Oscar named Salmon
55 gallon- 4 tinfoil barbs, one small Oscar
55 gallon- freshwater community
That's perfect!!! Hey, people are gonna tell you that I'm wrong. Believe me, I have two oscars right now, and I can tell ya that you're fine with those filters and that tank! Just gotta keep up on your WCs, but that's with any tank. Good luck!

PERFECT. If you want the Oscar, get it.

What are the dimensions? Length width and height? if you want an Oscar, go for it. I'm speaking from experience with two oscars. Just keep up on your WCs :)

I, with much respect, disagree. I think that a 50+ gallon tank is perfect for an Oscar :) I do think that 50 IS pushing it, but it can be done with sufficient water changes. I have two oscars in two separate 55 gallons. I think that 55 gallons is perfect. By the end of the week there is about...
One Oscar would be perfect! I have two of them! Not in the same tank, they both have 55 gals. They have TONS of personality!

Will 5 Goldies (they would have to be fancies because they don't grow as big as common or comets) be able to live their entire lives in that 55 gal tank? Nope! A 75 would be ideal for 5 fancies. I'd say 4 fancies could live in a 55 their entire lives. 5 is pushing it. If you do get 5 (I would...
