That's great to hear! Would you recommend adding anything? Limestone/crushed coral to try to raise the pH for something like a shell dweller? I've been dubious in the past about trying to alter the base chemistry of tap water but I feel like I'm already up that creek with using water run...
We use those big bags of salt from the hardware store. NaCl pellets. I'd say I could just run water straight from the well but it's a good distance from the house and the whole house is on the softener system.
We also have a plethora of limestone so I could easily put that in the tank, but...
Hi all, I am finally at a point after moving where I can look at starting up some tanks again. However; we're now on well water and it's a whole new world. We run our water through a softener but our TDS is pretty high.
Here's the results from a recent professional analysis we had done...
Hi all, I was hoping for some advice on whether my water parameters would be reasonable to keep shell dwellers. We're on well water, and our water goes through a softener. Here's the results from a recent professional analysis we had done:
TDS: 507
Ca mg/L: 0.241
Hardness mg/L: 0.602
pH: 7.6...
I have been very remiss in updating about this tank! I did finally purchase a betta, nice double tail young male from my LFS
And this is the car packed with my husband myself, my kids, and a 10 gallon aquarium worth of stuff. Really, only the fish stuff is in the photos! This folks, is...
Oh, just a lone cherry shrimp. He hung on to the net when I was transferring one cory from the holding tub to the new tank. I was too tired of catching fish to try to get him out of the Frozen tank.
Well, another minor rescape. Had to move a bunch of stuff to catch some cory habrosus I was moving to another tank, so the time seemed right. Shifted some crypts to better positions, and I'm trying out my driftwood flipped the other way so the tall side is on the right of the tank instead of...
Thanks all! It's fun watching it come together even though it's soooooo opposite of my personal taste in fish tanks.
I like the sparkling gourami suggestion, if it was for me!! I think my nieces will enjoy a betta more though, they're just so big and flashy.
Tank is clear, seeded with a...
Ha, that's great that the illusion works! When I was putting the sand in the tank outside I was concerned because daylight showed a pink tint in the sand. However the dim tank lights make it look more white which is great.
I'll move some corys into the tank next week, and start hunting around...
Hard scape and tank fill done! I rinsed the sand, but still some cloudiness so I think I'll run the filter over the weekend while I'm gone and add seeded media when I get back. Hoping for an easy insta cycle since I can steal media from my other tanks!
Overall I'm pretty happy with the tank...
Wow, gotta admit I didn't think my stocking list would spark this much of a debate!
As far as cory cats, I think the confusion is over the specific species. I would only stock DWARF corydoras, specifically the habrosus. I've had small shoal (about 9, they are hard to count!) in my 29 g for...
Maybe 5 or 6 cories instead of 3? Trying to keep a nice low bio-load.
Glad to hear others have used the Carib Sea sand and liked it! It was pricey, but I think the real white will look best. : ) I did find the Frozen ice castle on EBay and ordered it already. No Olaf though! I can only...
For my nieces' birthday I'm building a Frozen themed betta tank. This will be my first non-natural tank, and I'm trying to build something as low maintenance as I can.
Equipment
10 gallon standard glass aquarium
Marineland LED hood
Aquaclear 20 filter
Hydor 50W submersible heater
Exciting...
Just another post trim update. I've acquired some Endlers hybrids so I'll see what kind of cool fry I end up with out of them. My Threadfin rainbows keep acting like they're spawning, but I'm suspicious that my cherry shrimp are eating any eggs they actually produce.
Plants are rocking and...
