    All set up, what next?

Yes, 20 long. I didn't think using stuff from my pond aquarium would be a good idea. (I'm a bit of a biologist, and I'm much more accustomed to the pond thing than the sterile aquarium thing, but I do know they shouldn't mix.) Thanks for your input :)

    All set up, what next?

Right now I have my whole tank set up, but I still haven't decided if I want to go with a shoal of tetras or a few blue rams. (Any suggestions?) I have a 20L, gravel, a hood with flourescent light, a heater, and a biowheel filter. What do I do next? I was thinking if I go with the tetras, I...

    fish for my 10 gallon

Okay, first of all, the reason that the sand is from a local pond is because I was housing fish from that pond. I needed to keep the environment as close to their original one as possible. I was just observing them, and now they've gone back to the pond. I'm ready to dump out that sand and water...

    fish for my 10 gallon

I just filled up a 20 gallon long that I've had in my basement for a few years to see if it leaks. If it does well, I might just use it instead. (I would have to buy a new hood, lighting, filter, and probably gravel for it. I don't know how much money I can spend on this project.) So far, my...

    fish for my 10 gallon

I keep thinking and thinking. I work at my local PETCO, and I took a look at our fish room today. I've come up with all sorts of tank options based on what we have and what I like. 2-3 blue ram cichlids (with something else? I don't know). 1-2 flame or dwarf gouramis with 3-6 bloodfin or...

    ideas for a 10 gallon

I have a 20 gallon long and a 45 gallon, both of which are not being used right now. There are problems with setting those up, though. Firstly, I would need to spend even more money on new hoods. Being an almost-broke college student makes that harder. But the biggest problem is that I plan to...

    ideas for a 10 gallon

Hi. I have a standard 10 gallon glass aquarium that I'd like to re-start. (As of now, it just has water, some rocks, and sand from a local pond in it.) I'm considering both freshwater and saltwater options. As for my saltwater ideas, I don't have many because I don't know a lot about saltwater...

Hi. I have a standard 10 gallon glass aquarium that I'd like to re-start. (As of now, it just has water, some rocks, and sand from a local pond in it.) I'm considering both freshwater and saltwater options. As for my freshwater ideas, I have some plants for it in a seperate container (java...

    Freshwater River Ecosystem

Okay, here we are, I'm posting some of my questions now. Again, a recap of the type of environment I will be setting up: There is a little dammed pond on a river near my house that is home to a few types of fish, crayfish, and lots of other animals. I live in New England, so it is cold water...

    Freshwater River Ecosystem

That's neat! I did an internship a few years ago studying benthic invertebrates for my state department of environmental protection. It was interesting, but it got a little "buggy" to me. That's one thing I'm a little worried about in my tank- escaping buggy things. I mean, bugs are cool when...

    Freshwater River Ecosystem

WOW! I just won a 45 gallon aquarium with a stand on eBay. I'll be picking it up next week when I have spring break. I'm SO EXCITED! Anyway. This will make my whole river ecosystem about 50 times better. The problem is that I amd going to need some stuff. I will need a filtering system, a hood...

    Freshwater River Ecosystem

I'm really excited. I've been checking out some even larger tanks on ebay, which would make the vivarium (another term for a half terrestrial aquarium) more possible. I plan to capture and identify fish as soon as possible. I might even grab my waders and go out there in the cold, cold weather...

    Freshwater River Ecosystem

I think I want to use a 20 gallon long that I have in my basement to create an aquarium that closely resembles the ecosystem of a river that runs by my house. I think this follows my interests better than the typical "fish tank" does. I've done something similar before in a standard 10 gallon...
