You can also try the 2-liter bottle trap to catch your fish, I have not used it but I have heard it is rather useful. Of course it might take a few tries and your fish might not have the luxury of time if heavily infected.
I am using filtered natural seawater in my 29g at the moment because of convenience, don't have to drive to get RO/DI water or mix salt etc.. I am also starting to notice a die off of coraline algea after 3 weeks for what its worth. Keep in mind that the salinity of natural seawater is usually...
I have the same cotton swab type filter feeders. They almost look like a cross between a sponge and feather duster. Mine have been reproducing like crazy in a darker corner of my 29g tank. I almost am tempted to consider them invasive if they keep their current rate of reproduction up.
I'll...
Here are a few pictures of the tank, I used my phone so I appologize for the poor quality.
The white balance on the pictures is not the best, especially with the blaring PC lights but on the close up pic I think the green I am describing is pretty much true to life.
I feed the anemones every...
So my 29gallon has been going strong for about three months now. I had a nice spurt of coraline algea growth.. mostly red with some purple but now I am overcome with green! This is a light green color algea that has covered live rock and now almost my entire crushed coral substrate.
Early on I...
Indeed, dosing for more purple/pink coraline algea. At the moment I have a green explosion and a bit of purple spreading.
Those readings were 5 days after a 20% water change using IO.
Also, should I use the plankton supplements fs sell for filter feeders? I have a big feather duster and few...
From my previous post you might remember I had two damsels with ich. I upped their feedings and was planning on setting up a 10gal QT to hypo them but two days ago I noticed: no more white spots! This was after I had simply fed them twice a day (flake/mysis) instead of every other day and left...
At the 5 week mark my water chemistry on my 29g is:
0 ammonia, nitrites
nearly undetectable amount of nitrates
The last water change I did marked the start of RO/DI water from lfs and I threw in some codium to compete with the tiny bits of hair algea growing on my glass.
Don't have a...

I picked up a heater for my guys per forum advice (100w). Temp was reading on an independent coral-life probe at 72.. I cranked it up to 74 and left it. Next day, 75. Left it for three days then upped it to about 76.. figure ill increase it one degree every week as it gets closer to...
A thousand words.
Thank you for the suggestions!
Below is a picture of what I suppose is the dead coraline algea.. you can see just a bit of live purple to the left of the photo for contrast. (hope it posts right)
You mentioned trace elements, etc. that the reef needs.. can I start adding...
After lurking about for a few weeks I decided I might as well jump in and get an account!
Thanks to all of you who provide advice and articles, all have been a big help.
I currently have a 29 gallon setup for a first time salt water tank. Have a penguin biowheel (i know, not the best) and a...
