It may just take time. There is a bacteria that breaks down the nitrites into nitrates. You may just need to let the bacteria colony grow and your problem will solve itself. It can often take several months for a tank to fully cycle. Here's a link to the process if you weren't already aware...

It looks like a hybrid to me, but I'm not an expert. It has that horizontal stripe pattern like some of the Mbuna though, so I'm not sure it's a Kenyi cichlid. I like the touch of yellow on the edges of the fins. Good luck with your new fish :)

I have had no issues with my African Cichlid tank. It has only been running for about 3 months, but all the fish seem happy and healthy. It is by far my easiest tank to maintain. They're a ton of fun to watch. Try to find a person who knows African Cichlids at your LFS, and you should be fine...

I would be careful with adding an small number like that. Also, make sure they are close in size because the larger ones will sometimes pick on the smaller ones. I have found that if you want to go with more than one, it is best to go with a group of at least 5 or 6. This is just my experience...
