Well if she doesn't I'd be shocked...this kid has been asking for one for more than a year.
Then again, it will be a blast because I've been wanting to get my feet back in the water for a long time, and having a little girl who is eager to be taught about fish and the care that goes along with...
Now my little girl will want to put a couple princess or mermaid statues in it I'm assuming that may not be enough for a puffer tank. Therefore incorporating vegetation would be a sound idea? If that is the case...how much vegetation would we be talking about?
Sorry for all the questions...I...
I will definitely post pics when it is all set up. I never thought about the dwarf puffers. I might have to look into one of those. Would they compatible with other fish or should a tank of that size be a strictly puffer setup...hypothetically speaking?
Well...I guess all of that would be helpful.:banghead: Only this is a bit of a hypothetical question. Considering I have no chemistry to go on as of yet, I wouldn't be able to get a complete answer. I'm guessing I should ask the question from more of a spatial standpoint rather than specific...
So I am doing a 10g fresh setup for my 5yo daughter's bday in August. I'm most likely putting it in either her playroom or bedroom. Either way from a spatial standpoint it's gonna have to be a 10g setup. I am looking for a peaceful hardy species that will be fun to watch for a young kid. I know...
It is okay if the fish is dead. It should still be reported to the local fish/wildlife authorities. A dead or alive fish won't make a bit of difference to them when it comes to pathogen identification. Now, I am making the assumption that this is not the first fish that has been caught with a...
Honestly if you are worried about the health and integrity of the fish species itself. I would wait until I caught a bluegill with the lesion on it and skip the "medical tank" idea altogether and just call the local fisheries office to report it. Let them take care of it from there. It makes no...
Thanks Fresh2o! I'm definitely leaning toward a 20g long. Pretty much for all of those reasons and the fact that a 20g long is easier to clean IMO experience than a 20g high.
I appreciate the tip on stocking. I have had several tanks as a kid ranging from community to a predator tank. I also had a hand in Tilapia farming during my high school years. I just haven't done a smaller freshwater tank in over 18yrs. My setup (when it is all said and done) will most likely...
Welcome nbenoit! I am a bit of a newb myself I haven't even gotten my tank yet, and already within the last 24hrs I have learned so much from this group of folks. Just keep at it and research as much as you can from the wealth of knowledge that is here already.
Best of luck!
Thanks AmandaLynn! I wish I had room at the moment to have MTS. I'm a riverine and wetlands ecology grad student so I'd be keeping more than just a kids tank if I had the room. Although right now I am debating on whether or not to go in on a 20g or a smaller 10-15g tank. Just worried about space...
Hey folks! I'm Dennis. I have had some aquariums before but that was as I was growing up. I now have a soon to be 5yo daughter who has taken on a passion much like my own for fish. So, I've decided to retake the plunge into a freshwater tank for her as a starter as a birthday gift. Naturally...
