    Zebra danios dying

Another idea: I read a thread saying that a person's white fin tetras were bothering their corycats enough to the point that they were unwell and actually dying. They would only do this when the lights were off and thought nobody was watching, though. This lead me to think that perhaps my black...

    Zebra danios dying

I forgot to mention it, but one of the zebra danios started looking a lot darker yesterday too... not sure if this is normal sometimes or if it is a disease or a sign of bad things to come....

    Zebra danios dying

I have a 40g breeder tank that I got about mid october. I fishless cycled the tank so that I had (at least what I thought) was 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and about 10-20 nitrates. Did a 24 hour test and saw the conversion happen from the pure ammonia to nitrites, to nitrates. I then did a large...

    PH and plants

I let some water sit out and put an airstone in it; the ph of that water and my tank were identical, couldn't tell the two apart when I did a ph test looking at them right next to each other, so I'm pretty sure it's just my tap water. I was thinking I might do some wisteria and maybe trying...

    PH and plants

I've read that driftwood doesn't really lower it that much (~.2 ph if I recall right). Not sure if that is correct or not. I would prefer to not bother trying to adjust the ph, I'm just not sure if that is practical or not if I want healthy plants. Right now I don't really have the funds to get...

    PH and plants

Right now I just have a couple java ferns, but I was looking at some taller plants I could use for a background plant. Pretty much all I saw was 6.5-7.5 ph.

    PH and plants

Hi, so currently I have pretty moderate light level (138w cfl) and no co2 in my 40g tank. My ph is about 8.3 and I have no rocks or anything in there that would be raising it to take out. From most of the things I have read online it says plants typically like ph lower (max about 7.8). Would...

    Stocking 40g

Okay, thanks. And I'm not sure about anything right now. I will have to go look at some in person to really decide what I want. :)

    Stocking 40g

The male plakat betta or the female normal betta. Would the male take dislike to more species than the female, or would the biggest concern just be the other fish nipping at either of the betta's fins?

    Stocking 40g

Would a female betta allow for a greater range of species down the road, or are they both basically compatible with the same types of fish?

    Stocking 40g

Does anybody have any experience with male bettas in a community tank? I have read conflicting views on whether or not it will turn out okay. I've seen that if you stock the tank first and put the betta in last it should be alright.

    Stocking 40g

Yeah, that's what I was looking at. And okay, thanks for the warning about temps.

    Stocking 40g

Does anybody have any experience with American Flagfish? I feel like I remember reading that they might be too aggressive for the type of fish I listed before, but I don't really know that much about them.

    Stocking 40g

So, right now I am in the middle of my fishless cycle (week after nitrites appeared, still waiting for nitrates), and I can't decide on what I should stock in my tank once I can actually put fish in. Tank is a 40g breeder, and I have a penguin 350b for my filter. Ph is 8.4 out of my tap. I...

What to do when cycle completes, and in meantime

Yeah, I've been finding that out too about the plants. Do you know if local places usually sell lace rock like HD or lowes or anything? Yeah, I would be feeling pretty silly if I hurt my tank cuz of a used pot. A question about the java fern, though. Would it get enough food...
