Pros: Bio wheel; durability; extra media slot
Cons: None so far

Hi- I have had this one going for almost 6 months now and it is just wonderful. I cannot rave enough about this filter. The bio wheel does a superb job of keeping ammonia and nitrite down. The media cartridges I replace seldomly, as I just take them outside, wash the foam off with the garden hose and plug them back in. The extra media slot is great for putting carbon and ammo chips in. Finally, the wheel is the best feature. It always keeps the water clean and free of debris. When I was disabled for almost 4 weeks straight on my living room couch due to a twisted knee, I had to rely on my sister to feed the fish. She overfed the little guys and the tank was packed with debris, clogging the undergravel filter. But when I checked the water levels, there was negligible ammonia, and the nitrite was 0 as well! Only the nitrate was high. I think that speaks for itself on the effectiveness of the bio wheel. It is the best ammonia and nitrite killer on the market. I highly recommend this product to anyone wanting a quality filter built to last( I know guys who have used this filter, without any issues, for 8+ years!) Be smart; buy a Penguin!

Pros: Good price; two media slots; very effective filter, good improvement over predecessor
Cons: Snails can stop the wheel; Must make my own media baskets from used filter cartridges

I have had 4 of these filters running for almost two years now. They are excellent and quite an improvement over the products they replace. They have two slots for filter cartridges now, which means you can have twice the surface area or you can add in some other media such as crushed coral for your snails. Very nice filters and I would have given them a 10 if common pond snails were not able to stop the bio-wheel every week or so.
