i just bought a faucet filter to filter out my tap water and it saids it wil remove 98% of chemicals and since r/o removes 99%, is it much of a difference???

anyone know how deep my sand bed should be?? saw on some books said a thin layer is better coz more O in the sand, what are the benefits of a deeper sand bed? TIA!
