Okay, so I've had a tank set up since April, abouts, of 2015... 40gal Small Koi x1 Pictus Catfish x1 Plecostomus x1 Marineland Penguin 200 or something, "Bio-wheel" filter, at the moment... HOB filter system. API big test kit (the one with the liquid additives and test tubes) shows all levels...

Gouramis, Cichlids, Guppies/mollies... Just never cared for them tbh...

My friend has an extremely well-established (a few years old, two HUGE goldfish - probably 1.5lb fish) tank, and is willing to donate bacteria to me for fishless cycling purposes, but I don't know if he wants me cutting up his current filter... Would it be sufficient to just get a bunch of good...

Oops! It's a 10g. I cleaned the tank with bleach then vinegar and let it sit. I have yet to clean the structures and pump. Tomorrow I should be cycling it for new fish... - CK

Thor and Loki are both gone. The pleco I set aside in a 1gal terrarium tank pail as a quarantine until I can figure out if he too is going to live or die; It's hard to tell a creature's temperament when the creature has no temperament to speak of... :P Anyway, the tank is going to get cleaned...

I was told this stuff is perfectly safe for sensitive fishes, specifically pictus catfish and plecos... Loki and the pleco seem to not be getting any worse, but Thor is floating funny between few spouts of activity... I think he's done for. :cry:

I got some weird "herbal ich treatment" from Petco. I wasn't sure if by "activated carbon" and etc. on the warnings that they meant the generic charcoal filter element I have, but I pulled it anyway. The guy at Petco said they use this stuff with stellar success, so I told him if Thor and Loki...

CRAP!! So I figured with a google search that my pictus now have Ich! Stupid dat-gummed parasites! >:\ Now I will have to wait until Petco opens to get Ich-curing stuff... A website recommended something like quinine hydrochloride because they're sensitive to malachite green? Sound about right?

Well, we had a few goldfish in a 10g; nothing special at all. Also, I could be mistaken about the frequency. :P

Just wondering what everyone does for maintenance every week/month/etc. My mom usually did a 50% every week and a 100% every month or so... I have done one 100% and a 90% mainly to clean the yech of minnow from the tank... I think my next will be a 75%. - CK

Big cat is named Thor, the smaller cat is Loki. Named so because I have a resin viking helm structure in the tank. Also because Thor is kind of mean. :P Pleco is named "The Dude", en homage to Jeffery "The Dude" Lebowski. :cool: - CK

To be quite honest: Nothing!! Tanks are work and spending money and constant attention; all three things I hate!! But it's all made worthwhile when you come home from work, sprinkle some food in the tank, and watch the cats get nuts on some flake. :) Also pondering just how big I could get...

I separated the minnows and now my tank is as right as a tank can get. I have a newbie intro post with more details, suffice to say that the minnow idea is scrapped and now I have a catfish idea that is going (forgive the pun) absolutely swimmingly! I've got just about everything I need...

So since separating the minnows from the tank into a bait bucket (where they should've been), my tank has cleared up, my cats are happy, and everything is groovy! Fathead minnows are probably the worst fish in the world as far as fish are concerned... :P I've decided to rename the other guy...
