High nitrate levels that won't go down. They are at 10ppm, and don't I don't know how to get it to go down

I recently added 10 lbs of nice looking liverock to my newly started clown fish tank. When the rock went in it was a beautiful white color that looked amazing under my light. Now it is starting to turn green (algae?) how can I keep it white or what is the appropriate color for rock?

i recently returned from puerto rico and collected some dry rock from the beach and have a starfish skeleton that i was wondering if i could put in my FOWLR tanks? i would give them a muriatic acid bath (like i did with my dry rock) before puting them in. would it change anything or harm the fish?
