What cichlids Can I put in my tank

Most cichlids are prone to dig up plants. U may be able to get away with some of the smaller guys that don't dig as much. Someone with experience with cichlids and plants will hopefully chime in. I only use fake plants and they are constantly moving my sand around for their holes and homes. Good...

    Beginner with haps/peacocks help???

I disagree with hardscaping the tank before stocking. Different fish need different hardscapes. If he ends up with mostly mbuna he should have tons of caves all over the tank and at different levels. Haps and peacocks need more open space. Choose to go one way or the other mostly. I have mostly...

    Beginner with haps/peacocks help???

You could go with some syno catfish for the cleanup crew. They're tough as hell. I have three featherfin syno cats in my 90 gal african mixed tank with 23 cichlids and they don't get messed with at all. The mbuna run out of their way when they come through.

    Please Help on White Mark

Does ur test kit do nitrite and nitrate? Those are the next steps. Test nitrite about an hour after each water change till it goes to 0 and then u test nitrate weekly and do a water change when it reaches 20 ppm or more till the end of time (always do this). That's the best way to keep ur fish...

    Please Help on White Mark

Cycling a tank takes about a month. Buy a test kit that tests for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. The cycle is complete when there is no ammonia or nitrite in the tank and nitrate starts to show up. I wouldn't even test for nitrate until after week two or three. Don't over feed and do lots of...

    75 gallon mbuna

Who are u trying to get to mate? The blue guys or the peacocks? Either way I would get some big limestone rocks that have the tiny holes throughout them. This is the perfect place for juveniles to hide and grow. I have four bumblebee babies and a yellow lab baby hiding in lime stone right now...

    Cichlid Hardscaping

Put some wooden shims under the stand to level it out. That really is pretty important not just for structural support but for looks and water changes.

Who gets along with my cichlids? HELP

Hukit are u just trying to mess with him? All of these fish will need a much larger tank when they reach adult size. The parrots and Severum could be ok together in a 75 or 90. With the oscar I'd need a 125 or more. Really the oscar should prob be by himself. Do not add more fish without getting...

    Boesemani Rainbow extra long poo!

It's probably one of two things. Either a little constipation, cleared up by feeding deshelled peas or other fresh veggies, or internal parasites. Is the poo string white? That's the sign for parasites. And like bright almost see through white is what ur looking for. That'll take mediation and...

    Redness on yellow lab cichlid

This guy was sitting on the bottom of the tank this morning upside down. Still breathing and flapping it's fine but looks like he's on the way out. Is this something that can spread to my other cichlids or was it injury related? Let me know so I can help my other fish. 90 gal tank 24 Malawi...

Question on tank upgrade - help needed.

If possible link them together by putting the input of one filter taking from one and the output into the other and vise versa if u have two filters. I had canister filters so I was able to do this. Good luck!

Question on tank upgrade - help needed.

Get some large Tupperware bins, like the 50 gal ones, and fill them will clean water. Hook up ur filters to the Tupperware bins with proper heaters and make sure the surface is agitated in some way with power heads or air stones in each and take ur time setting up the new tank. I've had fish...

So these look like super tiny dwarf gourami. They are about an inch long. Are they just juvenile gourami or something else? Second fish of the same species.

    Snails and Shrimp?

Try Malaysian trumpet snails. I think it would be your best bet and the peacocks/haps would love the treat once in a while. My reasoning is two fold. First, they're cheap so why not try it. And second they breed like crazy and borrow so you would probably always have a couple in there that could...

New 90 gallon Malawi diy build

I have a 90 gal with 24 mixed male Malawi's and two fluval 405 for filtration. I never use carbon unless I want to take out medication which is really the only use for carbon. U want to filter your tank anywhere from 5 times and hour to 10 times an hour depending on stocking level. If ur under...

    Stocking ideas for 50g column

Bettas can't go with angels in general. The betta won't leave the angels alone and eventually one of them will stress out and kill the other.

    Online shopping? Or not?

Ever thought of raising your own feeder fish? Great excuse for a second tank of live bearers or something that reproduces quick. I don't know how quickly goldfish have babies.

    Prices

I find mixed African cichlids for 5 bucks at Petco and petsmart all the time. They're juveniles and so they're not sexed and super tiny 1/2 inch to 3/4 an inch at most usually. Mostly common mbuna such as yellow labs, aratus, socolofi, kenyi, bumblebee, and a few others I can't think of right...

    Newbie would love advice

Sounds like you did ur research! Those all will work great together. I don't think the rasbora are known to nip fins which is something u have to worry about with fancy guppies. Do u add co2 for the plants or use low light setup?

    Media for Canister Filter?

Depends on what you want. Some people like filter floss in the last one to polish the water but it clogs quick so you have to change it often.
