Ok now it is to my knowledge that you are not ot mix african cichlids and south american cichlids... One of the reasons.... BESIDES the difference in water parameters... was an example i was given This had to do with the pike cichlid where the african cichlids are not used to being around such...

    need advice, choosing canister filter

i am a big advocate of Fluval filters. I have the 404 and it does one hell of a job. My cascade... i have ZERO to say about. it is pretty terrible actually in my own opinion. I have no personal experience with an ehiem but i have heard GREAT things about them. But i will push the fluval.

Wont crayfish just eat the left over food and any decaying matter on the bottom of the tank? I didnt have a blue crayfish but i bought a plain brown one that eventually turned blue. I asked about it and it had something to do with the water and i was told i shouldnt be alarmed at it. BUT my...

Ok so i need some advice on controlling brown algae here. I have a african cichlid tank. I have an all sand substrate and texas holey rock (carved limestone) in it. So this brown algae is killing my theme. The all white really makes my colorful fish stand out! So i took out all my rocks and...

    Crystal Clear water

Looks like you have some teawater. This isnt nesscessarily a bad thing. To my knowledge it doesnt hurt the fish. The driftwood may actually of been the cause of the teawater. Some people actually prefer the look of this. You however dont seem to be one of them... obviously There are several...

    Substrate for a crayfish

Sand no matter what you do is gonna be to small to gravel vac... anything that is big enough to gravel vac would be considered gravel. Alot of my friends tried the half sand half stone sandy stoney look and its real nice at first but the sand all just eventually settles beneath the rocks in all...

    Filter Poll

i reccommend the emperor basically because with my experience with the aquaclears.... to put it bluntly.... they are terrible! other ppl may have had better experiences with me, but i found they are worthless. I liked mine just to put ceramic rings in for biological filtration... but anything...

    Overfiltering

i personally only have a 29 gallon tank and i have a canister filter rated for 70 gallons, and two on the back each rated for 30 gallons. I have been told there is no such thing as overfiltration. My canister filter has nothing but ceramic rings in it for biological filtration and my bio-wheel...
