    Sponges and Ceramic Blocks in Canister

    I've heard many conflicting opinions about use of sponges and ceramic things in filters because they become nitrate(?) factories if not kept clean.....I have a 10g tank that is currently cycling with 19lbs of LR and 20lbs LS...should i keep them in the filter or just keep the carbon in there??

    Cloudy tank from adding sand.

    I just added sand to my tank and its really cloudy too.....i dont think turning on the powerheads would help though, wouldnt that just churn around the sand in the water that you want to settle to the bottom? anyways, im not turning on the powerhead or filter until the sand is completely...

    I'm getting ready to add 20lbs of LS and 12lbs of LR to my 10g tank....what goes in first, sand or rock? i know the rock has to be in contact with the bottom of the aquarium so im thinking about adding the first level of rocks...then adding the sand...then adding the rest of the rocks.....also...

    im in hagerstown, way out west......i might take you up on that xenia offer in a few months though.... using PVC to raise the rocks would require too much effort......haha....wont the cleanup crew do a good enough job of cleaning the sand once the cycling is complete? so do i leave the lights...

    i know the LR has to be in contact with the bottom of the aquarium...but wouldnt it be a lot harder to add the sand AROUND the rocks?? but youre right, it would make cleaning up after cycling a bit easier

    havent started cycling yet....i ordered 12lbs of LR and 20lbs of livesand from satlwaterfish.com......should be here on Wednesday....is that enough "fuel"?

    During the cycling process, do you still perform water changes every week or two? Also......do you cap it off every night during this process?
