filters in general do exactly what ther suposto witch is trap waste this is what makes them nitrate factories the wast is trapd insted of being consumd by filter feeder and removed by your skimmer and you probubly have enuff lr to go without filters like roka64 sed just remove the media slowly...

you dont have to remove the biowheel just the media you can keep it for water flow

i have both i love my turbo snails thay do a grate job at cleaning algae i also have bumblebee cerinth and nassis the only snail i have ploblems with is astra

not rilly any way around it you should pick up a ro filter ther prity cheep $100 for a nice 6 stage ro di on ebay the only way to reduce nitrates is to do water changes so if you got nitrates in the tap water not to mention all the other stuff your guna have problems keeping them in check

my persinal opinion is that astra snails suck even if you flip them over the stress can kill them no bady at the fish stor tells you that when you get them

my firefish is quite the hider i can go days with out seeing him give the floor a good look if theirs nothing there probably hiding

test the water before mixing it to see if theirs nitrates
