    White crud

I had the same problem with my old set up. Salt mostly for me. If you have a filter output that cascades into the tank you are getting splash. Airstones in UGF, bubble walls etc also cause splash. The water hits the lid, then evaporates. Leaving the minerals behind. My new set up has a...

    Stressing about filtration

This xp2 is my first below tank canister I have owned. I am very impressed. My set up is from bottom to top. 1st basket Foam 20 x 2, 2nd basket foam 30 x 2. 3rd basket. 1/2 ceramic rings (going to fill the rest at the next change). then the micro filter. I have only cleaned it once so...

    Stressing about filtration

I made the same UGF discovery a few weeks after my 55g set up. I decided to remove the UGF. I first added a HOB magnam (to help remove all of the debris) in addition to the XP2. I removed 1/2 gravel and 1/2 UGF. Topped off the water. Waited 1 day removed remaining gravel and UGF. Waited 1...

    Advice !

My goldies love worms. After a rain, I'll pick them off of the drive and toss them in the pond. The eat them very quickly. Never noticed any effect other than the fish getting fatter! edit: not only do they eat worms. The eat any unfortunate bug the finds its way into the pond. Crickets...

it's still cycling. I plan on getting cichlids. Probably Mbunas. The starters are just the survivors of my leaking 30g. I've got to get it repaired or find them a new home. I've got a new home for my pleco. I'm taking my time selecting the new fish.

    Softened water in the tank?

interesting question. I have a water softener and plan on keeping cichlids. Should I use my outside taps "hard water". That will be a real pain. It's only cold.

Please help me.. I think I'm killing my fish

Did the problems occur after the tank cleaning? do you have an undergravel filter? I lost half of a tank of fish because I disturbed an established undergravel filter. I have since stop using them. Get more advice on this subject, I have limited experience.

Joy & anquish in new tank -- and shrinking aquariums

Are outdoor ponds a symptom of MTS?. It started 4 years ago with a 10 gallon tank, a pleco and a few goldfish. The next summer I put in a 125 g garden pond for the goldfish. My wife wanted to winter them inside so we bought 20g. The following summer I find myself in the front yard spending a...

jrp, Cover the top with a peice of lexan. You can buy a peice at the lhs. Most cut to fit for free. You can cut/drill holes for the heater, etc. Remeber, "measure twice. cut once."

What's the best way to move a large fish?

I've found a new home for my 11" pleco. I bought him when he was little and the only time I moved him was from one tank to another using a bucket. I now need to remove him from the tank and transport him across town to his new home. It's about a 20 min trip. Any suggestions?
