    Angel fish on his side

3 month update on the sideways angel . . . . He's still alive, eats well, gets around great . . . fed him blanched peas for a while which took some doing because I don't think he liked them, but eventually he caved in. So, after all that he seems very alive and healthy, still hangs out with...

Scotch Guarding the fish to prevent staining . . .

I figured the subject line would grab some attention, but seriously, here's the deal . . . Just got new living room furniture, couch, chair, loveseat, the whole bit, and we chose to Scotch Guard it ourselves rather than pay the extra billion dollars for "Stain Guard". Question is this: This...

    Angel fish on his side

After what we spent on that furniture, I can't afford a Betta Bowl. I could have bought the ultimate digital with that money! Wives . . . . humph . . . you can sell 'em, but you just can't get as much for 'em as you could back in the day. dttg

    Angel fish on his side

As I sit here typing this and looking at him, he's swimming perfectly normal and upright and he seems to be quite happily chomping down some frozen brine shrimp, but when he stops eating, he kinda goes diagonal a little bit. I have some peas, both frozen and canned. How should I prepare the...

    Angel fish on his side

Whats it mean when my Angel fish is sideways? He seems strong and when he feels motivated to, he can straighten up and swim correctly, but lately he's been . . . .well, sideways. He's not tall and skinny anymore, he's flat and wide. Am I looking at something I need to cure here?

    Who ate my cardinal tetras????

Ok, This group has been living together in this tank for the last 3 months, at a minimum . . . .can someone look at my stock list and tell me who the most likely candidate is for suddenly eating all 3 of my cardinal tetras? The two with the biggest mouths are the Pictus Cat and the Goby Dragon...

Thought of something so I woulnd't have to cycle

These are all good suggestions listed above . . . .but I've learned that in aquaria, nothing good comes from rushing things . . . all the things said above can speed up the cycle, but please be patient and make sure the tank is established before you add your fish. I too have been the victim of...

    Territorial Clown Loach?

This sounds very odd for a Clown Loach . . .even a territorial one, but the fact that he doesn't allow the other clown loaches to be with him concerns me . . . .I've never seen a clown loach turn away another clown loach except while playing, no matter the size or age. Question . . . .have you...

    Mountain Stream Pleco

I believe the fish you are referring to is actually a loach. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think this is what you saw: It's called a Hillstream Loach.

More questions on angel matchmaking...(pics added)

I'd probably go along with that if I had any idea who was a male and who was a female in the group of three, because truthfully, I have no idea. They are very difficult to tell apart unless you get an already mated pair. This is a result of stress. Some have colors that appear when they are...

Where do you go for slate?

I want to build my own stone caves and stacks of rock using various sized pieces of flat slate. Our specialty LFS here in town carries it, but they want outrageous amounts of $$ for it (like $3 a pound or something rediculous like that). Can I not get this same slate at Lowe's/Home...

More questions on angel matchmaking...(pics added)

Yep, I'd listen to JChillin . . .from what everyone has told me, I got lucky, especially considering my Angels are already mature adults. I agree with his assessment that you stand a better chance because of your Angel's young age. Like you, I thought long and hard before I made the decision...

    Is my Angel lonely?

Sorry, that was my fault . . . went in cleaning up at Photolocker the other day and didn't think about that . . . .its fixed.

    Is my Angel lonely?

Is my Angel lonely? **UPDATE** Well, its been almost two weeks since my angel got his new friend and I'm happy to report that they are co-existing quite happily and seem inseparable. The park themselves next to each other and mirror each others movements around the tank. Angel matchmaking...

Difficulty reading Nitrates on AP Master Test Kit

Ok, thanks . . . yes, I just did the PWC, so I'll take a reading again in a few hours to see if its readable, I just wanted to know if I was the only one that thought those colors were awful close to each other. Anyone recommend any other test kits or methods that are easier for them to use/read?

Difficulty reading Nitrates on AP Master Test Kit

I've always had really good vision, and have never been diagnosed with any kind of color blindness, but I'm starting to question it. Am I the only one that sees almost no color difference on the Nitrate card on the AP Master Test kit between 20, 40 and 80 ppm? I see a difference in the 160...

    Pleco eating?

My pleco has "his" cave that he never comes out of with the lights on, so I put a clip with a zuchini in it right outside the door of the cave after I turn the lights out. I go out and check every night and within a half hour he is always out there feeding his heart out on the zuchini. It's...

How to use a Gravel Vaccum?

Well, for me 20 gal is only about 45% of my water, but as europas_ice says, I do stir up the gravel quite a bit and a lot of stuff does float around the tank, some of which gets sucked up in the filter as I clean and some in the gravel vac (I have a canister filter that I keep running while I'm...

    Emperor Scorpion

I think I have the wife almost convinced. A little more nudging and I think I'll have my scorpion. I have a little unexpected trip down to North Carolina this weekend, but I think when I get back I should be able to very soon go get one. I'll probably get a heater and some sand and stuff and...

Fish definitely are too curious for their own good..

take some segments from plastic plants (the ones that you can adjust the height of) and use them to block the paths that the fish use to enter the decoration . . . keeps the fish out, but still allows the air and water to flow through.

    canister filter

No, like I said . . . I don't NEED it, not yet, but it would have saved me from having to buy another when I get a bigger tank. Would have been better for me to have spent the extra $20 now rather than having to spend another $100 when I get a bigger tank. Just looking ahead. I'd recommend...

    canister filter

Yep, same here . . .I got the XP2 and I love it . . . although looking back at it, I wish I had ordered the XP3 even though it is slightly overkill, I'll still have it when the time comes to get a bigger tank . . . .and I WILL get a bigger tank . . . because I have the disease.
