    Dead Fish

Thanks to all your responses, guys. As I mentioned in my original posting, the water was aerated for nearly three days and the temperature was brought to 78 before introducing to the display tank. I did not bother testing for PH and other things, since I thought this was just one big water...

Ok, I was trying to hook up a new sump. That is as good as PWC right? I think the only mistake I did was to leave the pump off for night?

    Dead Fish

This is sort of a follow up from a another thread: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/viewtopic.php?t=95857 Here is a synopsis: I am trying to hook up a basement sump and the pump turns out to be a bit overpowered for my 72 gallon tank. Here comes the latest: The new pump kicked off a good size...

    Water turnover rate

The returns are split into two and they both are on the surface. Also, If I increase the water flow that is returned to the sump, that creates a lot of bubbles in the sump.

    Water turnover rate

Thanks for the suggestion, I added another pipe to divert some water back to the sump. This reduced some water flow in the display tank. Even after diverting some water, the flow is apparently too much, and I have a non-stop sand storm in my display tank. What are my options now? Pl. help...

    Water turnover rate

The thing is I have leaks only where there is a threaded fitting. I tried to avoid the threads wherever possible; Looks like both of you seem to imply that 1000 gph is a lot??? When you say shoot for 15-20 times of the volume, being my tanks is 72g, I thought 72g*15 about 1000 gallons, right...

    Water turnover rate

:!: Yes. It is leaking in two places pretty big. I use PVC pipes. The inlet thread & outlet thread of the pump. The pump uses 1" outlet, I raise it to 1.5" right after the pump run through the ceiling and then right before the tank I reduce it from 1.5" to .75". I have two or three threaded...

    Water turnover rate

It is a fowlr now, but will be a reef hopefully soon. Mine is a 72 gallon and the pump based on the head loss calc in reef central, seems to be pushing at about 1000 gallons about an hour. I guess I am pretty close. T-eeing the excess water back to the sump is a good idea, although I would...

    Water turnover rate

I am installing a new sump in the basement and pump the water to the first floor. I am using Gen-X PCX70HP external pump and it looks like it is pushing too much water to my tank, more than the overflow can handle. The water comes dangerously close to the top edge of the display tank. a) How...

    Buying Acrylic for Sump

sump specs The approximate dimensions are 48X22X16. I am not planning to build the entire sump with just this one sheet. I gave that dimension to see if that is a fair price. I am sure this size sump could take 3 or more such sheets. I have attached the sump design. As you may see this is not...

Relocate Sump - Garage or Basement?

I have a 33 gallon sump that sits under my 72 gallon display currently. Sizing a return pump

Tex: The long run pvc fittings, is this something I can ask someone in Home Depot? dskidmore: That adding a valve will increase the wear on the pump, although sounds quite logical, didnt think of it before. Thank you. Actually this exchange prompted me ask another but related question. I am...

    Sizing a return pump

My overflow is untweakable at this time. I see some peole have used a dremel to cut few slots to make it wider. I am not planning to do this since I want to keep it simple especially since this is my first aquarium related diy and first plumbing diy :-( I forgot to include a union in this...

    Is my skimmer working?

I took it apart and cleaned it. it didnt help I guess. How long does a skimmer last? The mechanism within the skimmer is simple (IMO) with no moving parts or anything, I would expect my skimmer last longer than 4 months. Is this a sign that the skimmer broke and I should look for replacing it or...

    Is my skimmer working?

I see that the bubbles are being created. It also pushes some foam to the top of the collecting cup. However the foam is very clear and it does not extract waste as it used to be. A thin layer of brown sediment is also forming on my substrate once every two days. From the bubbles creation the...
