    Gravel cleaner recommendations

I use the gravel cleaner sparingly in my planted tanks; mainly just around the 'feeding' rock' where I drop fish food. I've read countless times on these forums that planted tanks do better by not disturbing the mulm on the substrate. I have mts snails that keep the substrate aerated so I don't...

    Fish are FRIENDS, not expendable!

I've done that too mumma. Usually I 'bury' them by tossing dead fish into a bush near my back door. Why? I guess its because I'm a gardener and think dead fish make good fertilizer.

    Fish are FRIENDS, not expendable!

I went from not understanding fish death ('the store sold me junk fish!!'), to remorse ('Oh no, I killed another one!'), to sadness ('poor guy. He fought the good fight but just couldn't hang on'). Some of my fish seem to like me (or the food I bring!) while others act like I don't exist. With...

    Smooth marble ok for tank?

I found a lovely moss green marble soap dish (5.5"Lx3.5"Wx0.75"H) at Goodwill today for a buck. It does not look or feel like it has ever had soap on it -it still had the original store tag on it. I would like to use it as a feeding dish in the 75g. This dish would be great to keep the pellets...

    How to rid snails?

I started the same three step process (only I added 4 assassins) a few weeks ago and I'm seeing less snails too.

My 75 gallon African tank. Water issue?

I run 2 rena xp3's on my 75 g and I alternate cleaning them, one every month, so neither goes more than 2 months before cleaning. Each has a white micro pad that I discard and change out every time I clean the filter. This pad is never very dirty though, mostly less than a 50 cent size ring in...

    MTS has struck.

Jill- Interesting project. Depends on how you find the fish (healthy or in need of serious meds) and how far you have to travel. I would do the cautious route and take the fish home in buckets using their tank water. You don't want to shock them with new, pristine water so use at least half a...

    Hi! Newbie looking for advice.

Yes, there are online stores that ship fish, like liveaquaria.com, for one. I have ordered fish, snails, and plants online with excellent results, from both individuals and stores. bigalspets.com is a Canadian company, though I don't think they sell fish. I would suggest you check out...

My 75 gallon African tank. Water issue?

I have these same particles and was just thinking today I need to clean all parts of both filters (hoses and sprayer bars too). If that didn't help you, I don't think I will bother with it. These particles are very disconcerting though.

    Hi! Newbie looking for advice.

That is a very unusual tank Shanny-nice! You have a very thoughtful husband. I'm sure you will get a lot of good advice on this forum. I would suggest looking into adding plants, by starting with low light, low maintenance plants, such as jave fern, jave moss, anubias, and Cryptocoryne for...

    Coralife FW 96W, 2x 6,700K review requested

I would like to upgrade my single strip 65w coralife to this 96w. I have a 75g planted tank but no co2. If you use this light, please let me know if it is worth buying it and if it would mean addition of co2. Thanks

Lighting-or why we do what we do....

Thanks blert. Looks like I will be looking for something new anyways. The left bulb will mysteriously go 'off' now and then for no apparent reason. This happened again last night and tonight. Hubby is going to check it out (he's good with electrical stuff) but I've had this set for about five...

    4 Harlequin Rasbora Tetras DEAD

This has happened to me so many times with neons that I have developed a theory--however many neons you purchase, half will die soon after they are acclimated to your tank. :(
