    New to Planted Tanks

I'm my low light 10 gal, I have water wisteria and Amazon swords that grow really well. My water wisteria grows very fast, especially after I have started dosing Excel.

    Water changes in understocked tanks.

If I were you, I would look into getting more of each kind of fish, since you have room! Corys and Neons I know for sure should be in a group of at least 5, and feel much happier in groups. I'm not sure about the other fish because I don't have much experience with them. Good luck with your tank! :)

    Spinning Neon Tetra

This happened to many of my neons, because the lfs I got them from had the disease in their tank. It killed all of the affected fish in less than two days, so it's interesting (and good!) that yours is doing better! Edit - The more I think about it, mine didn't look exactly like that, so your...

    Fishless Cycling Question

I read that wrong, stupid nitrites and nitrates :)

    Fishless Cycling Question

In my ten gal, nitrites didn't seem to take too long to go to zero, and my cycle was done in less than 4 weeks, so I'm sure you're close

    Fishless Cycling Question

As far as I know, yes, you need to keep providing an ammonia source. And from what I have heard, water changes slow down the cycle. Also, I doubt that high nitrates will stall the cycle, I see no reason why they would. But I am not an expert as others are on this forum.

    Pleco Food

Carrots and dark green lettuce (spinach or romaine, not iceberg), algae wafers (I use hikari), frozen brine shrimp/bloodworms. You should blanch the vegetables before putting them in the tank so that it will be easier for your pleco to eat them. All can be found at the supermarket or a local...

About my Betta and about Cherry Shrimp

I keep cherries with mystery snails, and they definitely don't bug them! I would assume that they'd be fine with pond snails, even if they are small. I think it's really cute when the shrimp hitch hike on the snails :)

interesting fish for a 10 gallon planted tank

I have neon tetras in mine, and am planning to have Pygmy corydoras

    Getting started

Just an idea - I currently have a 10 gallon with regular sand substrate. I use root tabs to give the plants their needed nutrients. It seems to work for me, but that is a very basic setup. Many people also add co2 to their tanks to help with plant growth. I'm new, so I won't be of much help :)...

    Undergravel filter help

You can see the Nerite snail in the bottom right corner and the neons are schooling in the left corner :) And that's really sad! I'm sorry it didn't work out.

    Undergravel filter help

I added four Neon Tetras and a Nerite snail and they all are doing very well! How are yours?

What Do I Do? It's the Dreaded Dropsy!

I am a newbie as well, but I can clear up a little bit for you! "0/0/10-40" means Ammonia/Nitrites/Nitrates. Your ammonia and Nitrites should always be zero, because they are toxic for fish. Nitrates should be kept low, through water changes. If you haven't, you should study the Nitrogen Cycle...

    Nitrate problem

Have you tested your water for nitrates? (I mean before you put it in the tank)

    Undergravel filter help

I definitely will! I don't want them to die from stress.

    Undergravel filter help

I have been testing the water every day - no ammonia or nitrites, nitrates always below 20. No flashing or other signs of disease that I can see, or did see with the fish that died. Aside from his back fins having a small tear, there was no damage on the body.

    Undergravel filter help

He didn't make it through the night :( Do you think he might have had a problem before he got sucked into the filter that could affect my other fish later on? I really don't want this to happen again.

    Undergravel filter help

Okay, I have the Tupperware facing downward on the ground with the fish inside it. There are holes in it. Is there anything else I can do?

    Undergravel filter help

I have a little air thingy that would work but I don't have an extra heater and my room temperature is very cold. It's maybe 68-72 degrees. My tank is kept at 76.
