    Please help me! Urgent!

Just keep an eye on it, do a ~40-50% pwc each day if you can (doubling up on the Prime), and should be back to normal soon :)

    Please help me! Urgent!

If you recently added more fish you're probably going through a mini cycle where the beneficial bacteria is growing to keep up with the increased levels of toxins from the new fish. Should only last a week or so. Not to mention, if you're using the liquid API test kit it's virtually impossible...

    Please help me! Urgent!

As long as you have a healthy biofilter (cycled tank, not overstocked, etc.), the water conditioner you use with detoxify the ammonia long enough to be consumed by the beneficial bacteria....won't be an issue. I live in FL and it's .5 out of the tap all day long, but test a few hours after a...

    Please help me! Urgent!

And honestly stressing the fish from water changes is of zero concern to me. They get used to it and will always appreciate clean water over toxins. Do you have a Python or other water changer?

New fish added recently? Have you tested the water straight out of the tap? If .5 wasn't a typo, it's not unheard of to see that in city water.

How long has the aquarium been set up? Perhaps you have another thread I haven't seen, but assuming it's a new tank cycling with fish?

There is literally no such thing as too many water changes, keep doing 50% pwc's until you're in good levels. You can also double up on Prime without ill effects. That will help detoxify the ammonia / nitrites.

Sanitizing Plants for Algae (before they go into the aquarium)

Side note on this- any recommendations for sites to buy healthy plants? Went to about 5 LFS' and wasn't impressed. Mostly saltwater stores here in FL

Sanitizing Plants for Algae (before they go into the aquarium)

Thanks guys. I'm gonna start off with a simple clip on LED and see if it can remotely sustain plant life, if need be I have a double bright LED designed for plants....but it doesn't look as slick. Will change if I need to. Trying to keep this tank nice and simple as far as maintenance goes...

Sanitizing Plants for Algae (before they go into the aquarium)

Hi all, I'm setting up a simple 22 long for a single Betta and some RCS. I will be planting low-light plants with eco complete. Is there a way to ensure I have killed any algae on the plants before putting them in the aquarium? I've heard of soaking them in hydrogen peroxide or Excel. Any...

    Urgent! Quick and Easy Question

Most modern water supplies use chloramines which do not evaporate out of water. Need a good conditioner like Prime.

    Back with an update

There's really no such thing as too many water changes (make sure you're using a quality conditioner like Seachem Prime to help detoxify the ammonia and nitrites), and yep, absolutely need to do several large ones ASAP. Here's a great guide on fish-in cycling-...

    Nitrites problem

Totally get it, but step one is getting them back down to your tap water level. From there, I think a couple big ones (50%) per week should be okay. Over the next few days I'd do several though to drop them down.

    Nitrites problem

Okay so that's good news. It's high, but I've seen sky high nitrates out of the tap which makes for a real challenge. Simple answer is water changes. Lots of them. In my opinion / experience...there is no such thing as too many water changes as long as you're using conditioned, temp matched...

I agree to test the water coming directly out of the tap for nitrate levels. Let us know what you find :)

Best Filter for a 20 gallon long

I bought the EHEIM 2232 (for up to 35 gallons) to have on hand. I'll install it and see what the flow looks like. If it's whipping around I'll go with the sponge filter idea. I totally get it's overkill for a single betta in a 22 gallon, but hey, go big or go home, right? :) I'll get the...

Best Filter for a 20 gallon long

Thanks guys. Almost sold on the idea of a small EHEIM canister or Fluval 106 for the sake of having a clean look. Think that's too much water movement even on low? I'm a big believer in overkill on filtering (used to have a 405 on a 40 gallon), but don't want the betta in a wind tunnel.

    Filter question

All due respect, but the comment "Changing out a filter wont change the water chemistry" is scientifically false. The overwhelming majority of your nitrifying bacteria reside in the filter media due to the oxygen rich envoronment. When you remove the majority of your beneficial bacteria...it has...

Mr Aqua Rimless 22 Long Alternative?

I sucked it up and bought it. Went with the low iron one which added to the cost. Apparently they're discontinued. Bulk Reef Supply was the only place I could still find them online. Procrastination cost me some money this time :)

Best Filter for a 20 gallon long

Hi all, Just purchased a 22 long (36 x 12 x 12). It will be housing a single betta and possibly some shrimp. It will be planted with driftwood (also cycled and heated). With its unique shape, I'm looking for filter recommendations. Since it's a betta, I don't want strong flow, but want to...

Mr Aqua Rimless 22 Long Alternative?

Hi everyone, I have been dragging my feet for years on buying this tank. Finally went to purchase it today and the prices have skyrocketed ($250+ for a 22 gallon long). Anyone have recommendations for other rimless aquariums which don't require a second mortgage? I used to know another...

Can't seem to get my Ph levels up!

Unless your PH is EXTREMELY off, I'd leave it is as. Fish greatly prefer stability over an "ideal" PH level, and any of these products are causing fluctuations. Sent from my iPad using Aquarium Advice

And honestly I'd stay away from the Stability. You've already got nitrifying bacteria in there and that stuff is questionable at best in my opinion. Sent from my iPad using Aquarium Advice

    Fishless cycle problems. Advice needed.

Hi there. Have you checked the PH recently? If I recall correctly, it's pretty delicate at this stage and a crash could cause a stall. If so, do a big ol' water change and I bet you're right back on track...and about done. Sent from my iPad using Aquarium Advice
