    Simple diy closed loop

ad hoc sump If you dont want to drill your tank you will definately need the siphon overflow/prefilter but if your sump is not big enough and your tank is topped of it can overflow the sump. The solution to this is a 1 way valve/shut off you incoportae into the plumbing. The ones I have...

    pool filter?

pool filter in ponds I have been running a pool filter on my pond for 5+years. (10ft wide) The sand quickly clogged in the filter canister when first installed and I replaced with Bio balls, and have not changed or even serviced the filter canister since. The problem that I had to deal with...

    Bleach & BBA

H2O2 I've used hydrogen peroxide in my tanks with good results. I use one drop per gallon everyday for a week to clear up algae attacks. I prefer it to bleach or other treamtnets becasue H2O2 when placed into water breaks up ino H2O and O. Water and oxygen thats it. These active parts of...

    invisible canister filter setup

Bulk heads If you go route 2, dont silicone the in/outakes into the bottom of the tank. Too much potential for leaks. Use bulkheads it's the only way to do it right and they only cost $1.50 http://www.etanks.com/bulkheadadapters.html[/img]

pool filter in 225 gallon aquarium

should be OK 3000 liters is roughly 700 gallons per hr. So you would be OK. I would put a gate valve on the output of the filter to adjust the flow just incase. Now if its 3HP then its way to big. I use a 1/4 HP pool pump for my 12foot garden pond.

Need serious help... (sorry - long)

PH adjusters with Phosphates I'm with markP. I bet the PH adjusters you are using contain Phosphates. Seachem has a line of PH adjusters that dont use phosphates. I use Acid Buffer not acid regulator from seachem. It's the only one with no phosphates. ALso you might want to consider...

    Opinions onT5

T5HO I do corals reefs and planted tanks. And the salt guys equate T5HO to metal halide bulbs without the extra heat and electricity. On some salt forums people say they have tested the output and find them within 10% of metal halide. I only have T5 regulars on my planted tank and metal...

Algae Problem In a Planted Tank

Hydrogen Peroxide I just learned of this from a LFS that is really well educated and has tone of experience. But they suggested H2O2, Hydrogen Peroxide. Just a drop or 2 per 10 gallons. I'm trying it now, but it makes sense to me from my old chem classes. H2O2 in water will dissasociate to...

    Why are plants closing up

Thanks, Decrease lighting time? I'm gonna try and decrease the light period by an hour and see if they still do it. Beside decreasing the light a bit willl help cut back the green haze algae build up on the front glass. Thanks J

    Why are plants closing up

Why is my ludwigia and rotala closing up during the last hour of my light period. The rotalla is new and I'm trying to get it settled, but the ludwigia is rockin and I just trimmed it back 50%. Are they reaching for more light or actually closing up. My tank is a 50 gal corner tank with...

Best way to get plants to stay DOWN

push them in at an angle put the plants in at an angle to the substrate. When planting Glosso, my LFS told me this is the only way to get them to stay in the gravel until the roots hold. I do this with all plants now and it works great. J

    Odessa 260W fixtures...

same ballast I believe both bulbs in one fixture operate off the same ballast. so if one bulb is working I bet the ballast is fine. I would actually try taking it apart and see if any of the wiring has become disconnected or the wire insulation has melted due to the heat. Unplug it first:)

Freshwater clams.... who has had them?

mine died quickly and made a mess of my tank. No reason why either. All my shrimp, snails and fish did fine. I am tempted to try them again, I like the idea of them

    Crazy high pH and rising!

possible co2 contamination a lot of areas use co2 to pressurize thier water system, especially in the winter. The co2 will keep what I am assuming is "hard" water ata a lower PH, then when is gasses of the PH rises. Do you ever geta cloudy glass of water from the tap thats full of little...

different source I would find a different source of K (potasium) just because you had bad luck with that fertilizer. Leaf Zone which has worked very well for me in the past is a good choice. I allways get a good growth spurt when I use it . http://www.aquariumguys.com/leafzone16oz.html

    Lowering GH and KH

How Can I lower GH and KH, My tap water is very hard, and although my plants will tolorate the high numbers, it is affecting my shrimp and snails. Also doesnt very high GH/KH affect how much CO2 dissolves into the H2O. I dont have the exact numbers on me now but both GH/KH were at the top of...

    Review My "Tidal System" Plan

simpler plan What czcz said made sense and made me think of a simpler plan. Why not get rid of the airline tubing and use just the pump with the corresponding tubing to put the water into the tank, and use the reverse syphon to bring the water back into the holding tank. Put the pump on a...
