Fluval Spec V Update #7
So Loachless and snail less (minus the banana plant that died)
My tank is starting to mature.
I have to prune some plants but for the most part everything is doing well.
Inferno took my sick fish's old tank (the one with Pop eye)
So the healthier pop-eye fish (yes...
Fluval Spec Vee w Update #6
Sooo...
A lot has happened since this tanks planting...and subsequent death of fishes and plants and now I have balanced (I hope for the last time) the nitrites and ammonia in this tank. I have also removed all "land" plants and now have all aquatic species in...
Bettas are extremely smart and can be trained like a dog to jump, go through an underwater hoop (pipe cleaners), and even come to your hand when you wave your fingers.
I know she is a little girl (and sort of annoying voice) but if she can do it...so can you! Watch this video:
:fish2:
Wow my new Fluval spec V has been a pain in my :foot:
:n00b:
So water was fine...I had this tank nicely planted with some live plants and things have been running for a few weeks. I added a Butterfly loach and 1 armando shrimp along with a nirite snail to the tank (to get it started). Water...
Do you think that is his "eye" hanging out? *shudder*
I am not sure if I should leave it or try to see if it comes off (probably too much trauma for the little guy). Just at odds with this.
His other eye seems fine. THAT other one, though, is def messed up.
:fish2:
Eye was not saved...
:(
So he is beginning to act like this old self again...but we lost the eye.
I think it popped  when I was dosing his medicine and changing the water in his cup daily. I would put him in a net for a few moments and he kept flopping around in it...so I assume...
Types of plants in tank:
Dan,
Thanks for your feedback and thanks to Fresh2o~
These are the plants in my tank:
-Dracaena sanderiana
-Lilaeopsis novaezelandiae (think that is the mini swords)
-Eustralis stellata
-Microsorum pteropus 'Windelov'
and
-Hemigraphis colorata
The bolded ones I...
Thanks Barliman.
The loach should be able to live there I thought (he is a baby) and I can move him to another tank (friends 20 gallon) when adult. You think not?
And I did pull out that plant BTW.
I read a few site descriptions of loaches and my water parameters are good etc. For...
Bad news!
:( The misfortune won't stop. First popeye is destroying one of my new bettas and now I have issues with fish dieing in this tank!
Water parameters were good. It has been running for a few days all empty. I even took a water sample to petco (where they tested it as well) they...
Thanks Barliman. What type of moss would you recommend for "tree effect"?
I am also going to need to replace that center plant and possible the bamboo. Anyone have ideas about colorful replacement plants?
Regarding the O2. I see your tank (it is beautiful), I wonder though because of...
Update #5 Inferno's Spec V Planted: Video + 1 more pic.
Here is a video of the completed tank!
The pump is going full blast (to help cycle) I am concerned about the 02 @ night based on something Delapool said in an "Overplanting" post I read.
I would put the pump to the lowest...
Update #4 Inferno's planted Spec V final looks?
OK so here is what I have so far. How does she look?
I am worried about over planting (lack of 02 at night).
What do you guys think? Too over-planted?
I don't want to add moss for the "tree-top" effect that Barli mentions yet until...
my sympathies
:(
So sorry for your loss. Poor little fella.
May I ask what type of antibiotic you used?
I found the difference between the two salts is marginal.
Aquarium salt (AS) is primarily engineered to create a healthy aquarium atmosphere and add beneficial elements to the...
Appreciated.
I will keep posting. I have 1 butterfly loach to add to the tank that has been cycling for a few days now.
I hope things go well.
Posting final pics today.
IF plants start to deteriorate...or if I have "semi-aquatic" plants in there will that impact 02 levels?
:thanks...
Help with my "in progress" planted 5-gallon
Delapool,
I am in the process of aquascaping my Fluval Spec V (5 gallon) right now with plants. The progress is posted and being updated in the "members freshwater tanks" section. 'Inferno's'
I have learned that some of the planned...
So here is the deal.
I recently added two Japanese algae eating shrimp to my 5-gallon. There was voss, 1 cherry shrimp, an oto and one assassin snail in there was well.
After adding them I realized how much crap was stuck in the back of my planted tank so I used a "turkey baster" device...
Update #3 of Inferno's Fluval Planted Spec V tank
Plant implementation (and maybe good bye for some of them) :bawl:, toplayer Caribsea "insta-aquarium" white sand added.
"facehugger-symmytry" layout completed :lol:and plants going in. Hopefully the other plants fair well. More photos to come...
lol @ face hugger. Thanks for the input Barli!
Sadly I think you guys are right AND the "amazing" centerpiece may not fair well either as apparently it is ALSO a land plant!! FML. This online dealer (and the pet stores) mislead me on these plants! Clearly my own research fell way too...
