Preferred Soil To Use In Dirted Tank?

So I want to start getting my feet wet with dirted tanks on a 5.5 gal that currently sits in the corner of my room with nothing substantial in it. I have done some research and people keep recommending Miracle Grow Organic Choice Potting Mix...

Beamswork Lighting for Low Tech Planted?

Thanks for the list, I'll have to check some of those out. I thought about T8s, since that's what I'm using now, but I'd rather get something more energy efficient that I won't have to replace yearly

Beamswork Lighting for Low Tech Planted?

So I'm looking to upgrade the light on my 55gal to LED, and I'm thinking about getting this: Beamswork EA Timer 6500K 0.50W LED Aquarium Light Freshwater Plant. Ideally I want between 15 to 30 par, at 18", probably a bit closer to 30. I will not be running CO2. Planning on getting low light...

Recommended lighting for a low tech 55 Gal?

I have a 55 gallon tank that I want to transform into a low tech planted. Currently my lighting is a 8,000K full spectrum daylight 32W 120V T8 48" bulb. The reflector its in is recommended for a 40W bulb. Considering that a 55 Gal tank is pretty deep, I figure I'll need to be in the 1.5-2 W/Gal...

To plant or not to plant?

Get plants that do well in low light. Anubias and Java moss are good. Also java fern. You could use a gravel substrate and use root tabs. Or eco complete topped with gravel and some root tab supplement. Im planning on switching over my 55 from gravel to that bc it's good for plants

Moving 5 Gallon Tank/3 Hr Road Trip

So I'm currently at college and I have a 5.5 gal with 3 fancy guppies, a juvenile bristle-nose pleco, and some anubias and java moss. I will be going home for the summer soon, and I was wondering if it would be feasible to transport it with the fish in place. My plan is to keep the tank full...

Watch "Pregnant red flamingo guppy" on YouTube

Doesn't look bad to me. It may be better if the grass wasn't floating, in my experience fry that are new born tend to stay low. But I don't see any problems with that at all. Sent from my SM-G900V using Aquarium Advice mobile app

You could also get some plastic mesh, big enough for fries but not for mother. And try and rig something in the fish bowl, or you could section off part of your main tank. Depends on what you have in your main tank though Sent from my SM-G900V using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Betta Fish Fin Rot?

So I got this male delta tail betta 2 days ago, and I want to know what the deal is with his tail and fins? I've never delt with fin rot before, and it seems like he might have just injured himself before I bought him or something else happened to his tail, but I don't understand the fin...

    Nitrogen Cycle Illustrated with Snatoms

Also, the H2S situation should be of little concern unless you have high concentrations of decomposing organic matter in your tank. Which isn't that common. In nature salt marshes and bogs are places where you get alot of H2S release, which smells of rotten eggs. Sent from my SM-G900V using...

    Nitrogen Cycle Illustrated with Snatoms

It's very good. If you like/understand all of the chemical interactions between organic and inorganic compounds and appreciate ecology it's worth it. I'm an environmental engineering major and I found alot of it relating back to my classes and how we identify water quality. It's pretty top notch...
