    Heater placement

I don't like the looks of an angled heater but that's just me. I still have a hard time seeing the cord in the water! Sent from my XT1585 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Heater placement

I've never read where it should be but also like to place or other close to the filter or close to the bubbler to make sure its circulating. In my tanks over 29 gallons I place 2 heaters, one at either end. Sent from my XT1585 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Some New Fish

Since you are in a high risk area invest a few dollars in a battery operated air pump. I got a couple at Walmart. $5-25. Good luck setting up your tank again. Sent from my XT1585 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Filtration Question on Hex Tank

Good news is I found a glass place and should be able to pick up my glass pieces on Monday. Sad news is it cost $44. Yikes, it better fit and look perfect! Thanks again for the diagram. Melanie

    canister filtration

canister or HOB No I did not. I just ordered some sand the other day and haven't put in any water yet. I resealed it last Sunday so its ready any time though. I haven't seen much info on media. Do ceramic rings need to be replaced ever? As for my HOB experience all I know is I use carbon...

    Filtration Question on Hex Tank

Thanks - and yes. A 20 gallon hex with the same measurements. We have had a glass store here in my small town for MANY years so I thought this would be a breeze. I did not however know that the owner had health issues and retired and the store is closed. I have drawn up a diagram with...

    canister filtration

Yesterday I got a used 44 gallon corner tank - WHOOP WHOOP - I am so excited. I have wanted one for over 15 years. I cleaned it and redid the silicone this morning and due to location would like to consider a canister filter. However - I have never had one before - only the HOBs. I need help...

    Filtration Question on Hex Tank

HEX Did you make your hood/cover for the 20 hex? I resealed a hex that was made in 1985 and am too cheap to spend $60+ for a new top. I do not have any glass shops nearby (almost 100 miles) and am not brave enough to try to cut glass for a hex. I think acrylic is even more expensive. Any...

    Help with mysterious white funk

We had 8 skirted glo tetras all die (none of the others) last month when we changed gravel. Saved 80% of the water, didn't change filters..... triple rinsed gravel even. That was a first and expensive mistake. Sent from my XT1585 using Aquarium Advice mobile app

Any cichlids that would fit in a 15g?

I just cycled a 29 gallon in hopes of making it a cichlid tank soon. I too have multiple tanks 6.5, 20H, 20L, 29 and 72B but have never had cichlids. Naturally have high pH so that is a plus. My son has a community 15H that looks great. Footprint same as 10 only taller. Sent from my XT1585...

    Refurbishing a 20 Hex - advice needed

I pulled out my old (25+ years) 20 gallon hex that I haven't used in over 5 years and would like to clean it up and set it up in my dining room. I have several questions so please bear with me. I currently have it outside filled with water to check for leaks too. I need a new top - I think I...

    New to Forum

New to the forum today - not to fishkeeping. I have had a freshwater tank of some size most of my life - over 30 years worth. Started with a 10, graduated to a 20 hex (free) once married, then located a used 29. That is all I had for many years until stumbling upon a used 55 a few years ago...
