Sick Angel Fish.. white spots, staying at surface, not eating

Thanks guys and apologies for not updating earlier... the Angel did not survive the night, she was dead when I woke up in the morning and checked on her and to make matters worse, the Farlowella that was in the tank started looking lethargic as well, he was resting on his side. I had to leave...

Sick Angel Fish.. white spots, staying at surface, not eating

Should I treat the tank with anything or just WC often? I do it weekly atm. I've never had to deal with Columnaris before. I'm in Canada so anti-biotics are impossible to get if that's what's needed :/ Should I treat with Methylene Blue?

Sick Angel Fish.. white spots, staying at surface, not eating

Hi guys, I have a sick angel fish. yesterday I noticed at feeding time that she stayed at the bottom of the tank and didn't come eat at all. Today I checked on her and she now has white spots on her... you can see on her fins and tail, is very lethargic, won't eat, and is staying at the top...

Is this HITH with my German Ram? Huge white growth on head and tail!

Thanks for the tips Rick, I definitely learned a lot from this experience. Luckily this post is a few months old now so the craziness did finally pass and everything went back to normal a couple of months ago with no more fish dying, no more weird growths or marks and stable healthy water...

The fungus apocalypse is over, what is this dot?

That certainly does make sense. Other GBRs in the tank had white marks as well, it was just pronounced on that one fish. The non-GBRs died had no visible fungal infection but all died within a couple days of each other. So basically you're proposing that something else killed them and the...

The fungus apocalypse is over, what is this dot?

According to some other senior members, it was not Columnaris and was identified as a fungal infection that spread to other fish. Unfortunately here in the wonderful land of Canada, you can't get antibiotics without a prescription, which is a $250 visit to a vet. Did you read through the...

    Specimen fish suggestions

What about a Leopard Gourami? Everything I've read about them is they prefer to be a loner and stake out their own turf. They actually don't do well in pairs in smaller tanks. I had one recently pass away but he was an awesome fish and grew very fast. They also look very unique. Won't do...

The fungus apocalypse is over, what is this dot?

Well I guess it ended up running it's course. Once the symptoms were gone and the tank returned to normal, 2 GBRs, 1 Angel, 1 Farlowella and 2 black neons survived. I lost 3 GBRs, a bulldog pleco, 1 black neon and 1 Denison Barb. It's been a couple of months now since the tank went back to...

Should I just stay away from Dwarf Gouramis?

Wow that's scary stuff. So even if I left them in the QT tank, I could potentially and unknowingly infect any new fish I QT in there and transfer over later. Yikes!

The fungus apocalypse is over, what is this dot?

Well, the party has started! I transferred over the two GBRs yesterday to the main tank and so far they seem to be doing well. Active, feeding and having a grand ol' time. Fingers crossed that little bump is just a skin tag of some kind, I am monitoring it like a hawk! Is it me or are Rams...

Should I just stay away from Dwarf Gouramis?

Hi guys, Just a quick poll from the member base, should I stay away from Dwarf Gouramis or at least keep them in their own tank? I recently acquired 2 pairs of healthy looking Gourami 2x FR and 2x NB - they are rescues. I've red a lot of horror stories about these getting sick easily, TB...

The fungus apocalypse is over, what is this dot?

I had purchased some new rams ad one of them had a small dot on his head that I hadn't noticed at the dealer.. a tiny red spec that seemed static. After the second week,it suddenly exploded overnight in to a large white fuzzy dot on it's head and it spread to some of the other fish on their fins...

Looking for recommendations for 48" programmable LED Strip light

That looks beautiful but the $670 CDN price tag made my wallet scream, run out the front door and steal my truck :(

    Confirming diagnosis - Nitrate Shock?

OK thanks, that makes complete sense then, I feel good that I was able to nail down the cause easily with the water test but feel like a complete idiot that this was 100% due to my lack of planning. I miss my Leopard Gourami :(

Do you pro-actively medicate your QT fish?

And if so, with what? I've always put in new fish in to quarantine and medicated when necessary, but I see some folks mention that they always medicate new fish just in case. If that's the case, wondering what/how you medicate the fish preemptively and what you are using. Seems like the last...

The fungus apocalypse is over, what is this dot?

I suppose you're right.. going to give it another week and make sure everything in QT seems 100% and then move them over. I've never had a serious infection hit my display tank yet, don't want to start now :hide:

    Confirming diagnosis - Nitrate Shock?

Would it make sense that Ammonia tests are 0 and Nitrates are 200PPM? Not sure how quick the cycle is with Ammonia to Nitrites to Nitrates is to be honest... is 10 days fast enough for all Ammonia to convert? I don't know enough about the cycle but for sure the ammonia test came back next to...

    Help with dying Pleco.

Are you vacuuming the gravel when you do your water change or just siphoning out water?

    Help with dying Pleco.

I've always used canister filters, the cartridges on these are both the filter and bio in one piece? I remember when I got my hospital tank it came with a fluval unit like this and it had carbon filters and a separate bio sponge and you could add the media as well. Never used it but remember...

Looking for recommendations for 48" programmable LED Strip light

Wtf really? So if you turn on the led strip with the remote, then unplug it and re-plug it in, it turns back on without having turn use the remote again? Ugh I hate stores sometimes...

    Help with dying Pleco.

You need to do those water changes weekly, or at least once every 2 weeks minimum... and make sure you are vacuuming the gravel, not just siphoning off some water without cleaning up the bottom. For the filter, yes you need to throw it out after using it for a month. Basically after a month...

Timing on shifting fish from QT

I've always done a full month in QT and no joke, any fish I've had in QT show signs of a problem so far was always in week 2 or 3. Remember that disaster I had in June with the GBRs? That was end of week 2. Btw love those BRs... I have one in my main tank and he's always poking around the...

Looking for recommendations for 48" programmable LED Strip light

Hi all, As the title says, I am looking for a LED strip light for my 48" aquarium, freshwater with no plants or low light plants that can be programmed to shut off/light up and specific times etc. I was thiiiiiiiiiiiis close to buying a Fluval Aquasky when I said sort of off-hand "And this...
