new animal planet show = tanked

Hey all. I haven't been on the site for a few years now, I used to have a couple nice tanks and spent years maintaining them - I'm not new to the hobby in any way. This show got me so worked up my girlfriend had to leave the room. Fine - so I've heard they're using already-cycled water (which...

    The clowns are hosting!

My 2 ocellaris have decided, after THREE YEARS of having both clowns and BTA's, to host in a couple of my 15+ green BTA's. For 3 years they ignored them. A few weeks ago, they started hanging around near the BTA's, then I saw them occasionally swimming through them. Tonight, just after...

Help! BTA's taking over my 180

3 years ago (or so) I bought a pair of BTA's for a 75G with PC lighting. Yeah, bad idea. One died after a month. The other one shrivelled up to the point it had no tentacles, and was all white. I ordered MH lighting after losing the first one. The remaining BTA started improving...

Tank on way help 75 g reef

You'll hate that glass top. I tried one after I lost my 2nd fish from excessive jumping. It kills gas exchange, and moisture /salt will build up on it, and pretty soon you won't be able to see through it - and of course all that stuff is "baked" on, cause you'll have lights right over it...

    Brittle Stars Dangerous?

I've got lots of them, little guys, no bigger than a dime from tip to tip. They're all over in my sump too. My blue trigger will eat them up in one slurp if they get into the water column, but he seems to leave them alone otherwise.

    Seriously sick, or pregnant?

FYI - I have another PJ cardinal which is flawless - not a scratch, and much larger. This little guy has just had a rough go at it.

    green algae

I'm down to full feeding every 5 days, and have stopped my algae's progression through my tank (although I haven't eliminated it). I'm using full RO/DO with 0.00 readings on the TDS meter. I tried cutting back my lighting cycle, which helped, but my anemone's didn't care for it and started...

    Seriously sick, or pregnant?

It's been a few weeks, but <5 NO3 (working on it), PH 8.3, SG 1.024, trites and ammonia non-existent (of course). I havent checked alkalinity in awhile. Not 100% sure about the tail - I've not seen any aggression towards him/her. I suspect my niger trigger or imperator.

    Seriously sick, or pregnant?

Also - the swelling is perfectly symmetrical from a front view. She (it?) is eating fine, and out and about, not at all shy for a PJ Cardinal.

    Seriously sick, or pregnant?

Noticed tonight my PJ cardinal is *extremely* swollen up. This fish is a little beat up - it got caught in an overflow, and ended up going down to the sump, one of it's fins was sheared off almost completely. That was 6 months ago, it recovered fine. Anyone thing this is a pregnancy, or a...

    PO4 tests in GHA struggle?

Instant Ocean is the manufacturer, Reef Crystals is the product. Technically, their other salt line is named "Sea Salt", not "Instant Ocean," although IO uses that name to refer to their standard salt all the time. I have thought about trying another brand - but each of them seems to have...

    RO membrane worn out?

My batteries are actually dead in my TDS meter - going to get new ones today. I flushed the RO, put it all back together after replacing a couple of the cartidges, it seems much better now. Thanks all!

    RO membrane worn out?

A little over a year. The TDS was around 350-400. After, less than 10, typically.

    RO membrane worn out?

I noticed this morning that even though I'm not using any water from my RO/DI, that the RO waste line is putting out non-stop water to the drain. I'm guessing this means the membrane is worn out or plugged? Obviously it's not putting enough clean water out to trigger the pressure switch that...

    PO4 tests in GHA struggle?

Been fighting a bit of a GHA problem in my 180. (brief history) I've been doing bi-weekly 25% PWC's for awhile now, am barely feeding, and am not overstocked in any way, am using RO/DI, which is fed from a charcoal-filtered house-wide filter (usually 0 or 1 ppm solids reading on my digital...
