    Internal Parasites

I was hoping for a couple opinions on this. Well, a concensus would be better. I'd just start over to be safe, but I don't want to be wasting time and my tank is building a good sized pod population and it would be a pain to start over. At the same time, I don't want to have to be battling...

    Internal Parasites

Well, I'm back in the saltwater game. I cycled my tank properly and bought two fish (blue green chromis). Then I purchased a firefish that died the next day. After scooping him up, I saw that my two remaining fish were acting weird. One had stringy poop and I later saw a small white worm...

    Girlfriend tapping the glass

HAHAHA! That's a WAY better idea than I had about pounding on a wall.

    Girlfriend tapping the glass

You could always pound on a wall when she's resting or reading a book and tell her that it's pretty much the equivalent.

What will eat dead plant leaves?

Malaysian trumpet snails do a good job for me, but the leaves have to be decaying pretty much. I don't know of anything that will eat any plant matter right ater it breaks off of a plant. Well there are, but they'll also eat your whole plant too. I'm guessing a gravel vac is the best option...

    driftwood

Can't beat a real piece of driftwood. Add some live plants and you can make any tank look great.

Clown in uncycled tank and curing rock help

You said you added some fish with your clown in a 12g nano. Just out of curiosity, what did you add?

Would like to know what these plants are.

In a way, I was kind of hoping you weren't going to say a Southern state. There are a lot of invasive species down there. So it makes identifying any particular plant more challenging. Plants like Hygrophila polysperma have really choked out some waterways down there. It's not to say that the...

Would like to know what these plants are.

Perhaps the location would help. I could try to look up aquatic plants indigenous to the area you got that plant from.

    Mantis Shrimp

I've been doing a lot of research about these guys because I'm thinking about getting a species only tank for one. From what I've read, nothing is really safe from these guys. The spearers will most certainly kill a fish, unless you have a very large fish. But then you might have to worry...

    What is this odd thing?

It looks pretty cool. It's like the missing link and it will walk out of your tank at any moment, lol.

    What is this odd thing?

    Frogfish species, maybe.

    55g Dirt Planted

Good buy. I love the Fluval models. What plants are you planning on getting? With a good sized tank, you could get some pretty cool aquascaping going on.

which is better freshwater or saltwater??

Wow, this is kind of a hard one to answer. I've had freshwater, brackish and saltwater; all of them have their own qualities. I absolutely love a great planted tank. I love watching the fish (discus in particular) swim in and out of the plants. Brackish tanks are awesome because the fish are...

established tank high nitrates and ?'s

I'm not sure about your nitrates, but I might be able to help you with your snail ID. Look up stomatella. If you have these, I believe they are beneficial. I have a bunch of them in my tank and they seem to only eat algae.

    Attaching Moss

I've always just wrapped the java moss with string around the driftwood. After awhile, the string disintegrates and the moss has attached itself by then.

The kid in me says that surfline aquariums are AWESOME! I had a 90 gallon and loved it.

    Foreseeing Danger

I'm foreseeing some danger with the weather tomorrow. Central Iowa is supposed to get almost a half inch of ice along with some wind. There is a strong possibility of a power outage, according to the news. If the power does in fact go out, is there anything I can do to maintain the temperature...

    Paint a black background?

I love black backgrounds, especially with planted tanks.

    Multiple tanks to one sump/refugium?

This is a fantastic thread because I'm planning on doing the exact same thing with the same size tanks, lol. I already have on 90 gallon tank with a sump. When I get the other tank, I'll be getting a much larger sump. That will be pretty important! I was going to simply put two return pumps into...

    Whacky thermometers

I just ran out to Wal-Mart and bought two thermometers. They both now have the exact same temperature as the floating one. I thought that the temperature felt pretty warm to the touch. I've adjusted the heater and I'll let the temp down slowly. Then tomorrow, I'll purchase a new heater just in...

    Whacky thermometers

I have two thermometers in my tank and they both have very different readings. My digital one says that the temperature is 75.1 while the floating thermometer says it's almost 84 degrees. Which one is right? What should I do?
