Acclimate large volumes of tap water?

I've gone for the cheap option now...4 buckets and clingfilm (ceran wrap to you) under the stairs and out of sight (and mind... we'll see). Failing that I'll use an attractive home beer making barrel.

Acclimate large volumes of tap water?

Good idea also...trashcan in the dining room? Mrs....hmmm. I hear the space saving argument, but not sure she'll go for it.

Acclimate large volumes of tap water?

Hi all, I think I'm losing some ghost shrimp when I do a water change in my 180L tank. Even a 25% change (it's hard to do less and suck the top layer off the substrate) causes a drop to about 18C, and that's about 4 buckets worth of water for me. The mollies and bamboo shrimp just seem to deal...

    Hi from UK

I think the shrimp do it at night..that would explain the pitter patter marks in the sand.

Nitrites really high after full tank clean and treatment

I think I will introduce some fish into the tank to produce some ammonia to get things going....thanks for your advice and layman's explanation. I'll keep a close eye on things, with regular water changes, and whip them back to the safe tank if needed. Is another alternative that I could take...

    Rain water

Well I'm no expert (as you've noticed)...I'm clutching at straws...all I know is the rain water made my tank water green, and now no matter what I try I can't get my bio filter to function as it should. Tank is just cycling. I've treated it, and I test it daily.... nitrites are off the scale.

Nitrites really high after full tank clean and treatment

Not really familiar no. Does the tank need an ammonia source? I could stock it, but I'm trying to create a breeder. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Aquarium Advice mobile app

Nitrites really high after full tank clean and treatment

Hi all, A fully cleaned tank, rinsed substrate gravel, new water, cycled for 2 weeks, treated with API NITRITE remover for 4 days, quadruple doses in a 60L tank, new Juwel Compact filter media (which was exposed to high nitrite), but can someone explain to me why despite all the treatments the...

    Rain water

No...to make matters worse it's ruined my bio filter. Nitrite is off the scale, despite 2 x 30% water changes. Now my mollies have septicemia, and I've had to treat the tank. Going for a nitrite removal treatment over the weekend. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Aquarium Advice mobile app

    Rain water

I use rain water for partial changes with my mollie tank. It's slightly green in colour. I live in the UK so we get lots of rain, and I'm near farm land so it shouldn't be too polluted. I haven't had the rain water tested in the butt, but the PH is spot on 7. The mollies seem to like it. What...
