    Continue to have algae

My plants are growing, but algae continues to be a problem. Using excel, flourish, and ample lighting. Total newbie, getting frustrated.

    Algae?

I have a Fuval 48" LED light bar and a Kessil Tuna Sun. My substrate is Eco complete. I know that's a lot of light but I also am using a lot of Carbon and fertilizers. One Kessil only covers half the 48" 60gal tank. I have read about using H2O2 for spot treatment of algae. I'm also considering...

    Algae?

Total newbie needs all the advise I can get. Using Excell for carbon, Flourish, and fert tabs, as well as Flourish iron. I do see some fairly significant new growth, but how do I control this?

    Learning the hard way

Thanks for the reply I am uncertain about the first two plants from the left. Both are doing well but I am unsure about light requirement. They both seem to prefer moderate light. The one on the far left has some brown/red algae; is that cause for concern?

    Learning the hard way

Purchased a book written by Peter Hiscock (unfortunate last name) Encyclopedia of Aquarium Plants. I did not realize water movement hampers nutrient uptake in plants. Disconnected my large air pump which was running 3 different air stones and reduced water temp. Also learned my favorite plants...

    Learning the hard way

Thanks for the reply I am using both Flourish and Flourish Excell. I have done one 10 gal water change (removed 10gal and replaced) and have probably put 10 more in to replace evaporated water. Two of my 7 plants are swords, not really sure about the rest. Could you recommend a good ID source...

    Learning the hard way

I have been trying to successfully establish a planted Discus tank for over a year now. My first attempt failed when I could not control the algae. I recently started over using a 60gal glass tank with Eco Complete as the substrate. I currently have 7 fairly large plants in the tank. I started...

    Planted Discuss Tank

Planted Discus Tank Thank you everyone who gave me very good advise. I only have 4 fish in my 55gal but I'm curious if my nitrates may be at or above 40ppm. I am reading about CO2 kits and root tabs. Any thoughts about CO2 kits would be great. I see some pretty cheap and others more expensive...

    Planted Discuss Tank

Ber2oo1 I have not been using any fert or CO2. I was afraid that would make the problem worse. I have 3 Discus and 2 Ram in a 55gal. I have had lots of different plants. I have cleaned the whole tank and basically restarted a couple of times. I have reduced the temp, which did slow the algae...

    Planted Discuss Tank

Hello everyone! I have had freshwater tanks for years. The last few years I have started keeping Discuss. I very much enjoy the challenge, however I have a problem I can't seem to overcome. I also enjoy live plants in my tank and that has never been a problem, until now. I absolutely cannot...
