I'm loving all these ideas getting thrown aroud myself... but do yourself a favor and research the african cichlids. that is the kinda of tank thats gonna keep ppl looking at it.

im not sure that by vaccumming the gravel that you are sucking up any bacteria... i would imagine that the bact. adhere to the gravel itself... removing fish wastes is always a good idea... everyday? overkill IMO

I used 50lbs in my 70... looks great. you wanna avoid a deep sand bed... not beneficial for fresh water

i second todd... spirulina is gonna be the staple... if you have other cichlids that eat NLS that it wouldnt hurt the duboisi, but i wouldn't go out and buy NLS just for them. RoK- NLS is a special formula for many fish. it contains ingredients that bring out the fish's colour. amny ppl use it...

i can definatly say im envious of this guy... i would love to set up this tank. however i am partial to malawi cichlids. I have a 20g of guppies, i've had tetras. but nothing is as nice as malawi cichlids. I would do a mix of peacocks, haps, and a few frontosa's. here's a link for ya to check...

it must be in the air because i had 3 guppy deaths aswell. Params are great and they is no known parasite. just random deaths...

i payed about 15 bucks for 500 grams of Fluval ceramic rings.

mine goes bottom- foam that comes with middle- ceramic rings upper-carbon and fine filter

in my 20g guppy tank the params were great and water looked crystal clear... bought a gravel vac and i couldnt believe it... the pail i syphoned the water into was brown... so i would say its a great idea.

agreed i have the xp3 and it works very well... every week i clean it and it's FULL of junk.

added an extension with no negative effects. in reality the impeller only pulls water from the point of highest head. makes sence to me. Highwater line.

well it sounds too me like u used WAY TOO many fish to do ur cycle. And those fish arent hardy especially the angel. I would use Danios to cycle for a fishy cycle. They are very hardy. I would add some male guppies to that tank. I have a 20 gallon of males and females and i got some with some...
