    confused :(

Do you get a fast stream of water from the discharge? If you do the unit is hooked up wrong. I can't really tell where your inlet water is coming from but your tubes don't look anything like mine. granted mine is a five stage but it should be the same. I will try and get a pic.

What are your best "Pet" fish?

My yellow tang follow me back and forth and then is always in the way when I am looking at something in the tank. My clow is skittish but will eat out of my hand but won't let me tough her. My bicolor is a regular riot. he will stare at me for awhile then pop out of his whole flash his behind...

Ideas on what to add or upgrade/modify my reef aquarium.

This is true you don't want to throw the whole thing in. Thaw it out, pat it dry if you want then feed it to the fish. I put mine in a cup, let it thaw, and then scoop it with my finger while pressing it on the side of the cup to get the water out. Works fine for me.

    Acylic tanks

You can sand, buff, and polish an acrylic back to like new condition but you can't do that to glass. Acrylic has it advantages (weight) and disadvantages (scratch prone).

    clownfish gender question

Here's what I found. Release from: Adapted by Katherine Redding & Kathleen M. Wong California Academy of Sciences What the movie "Finding Nemo" doesn't tell you about clownfish is that they're all transsexuals. In a study published in the journal Nature, evolutionary biologist Peter Buston...

    Tomato clown?

Not sure if the Cinnamon clown and the Tomato are the same fish since I can't tell them apart but mine isn't mean at all just a food hog. I have a yellow tang, bicolor blenny, coral beauty, two engineer gobies, a mandarin, and a Skunk Cleaner shrimp and he has never bothered any of them. I...

Need some comments on flame angel

A Flame Angel is not a beginner fish. Easy to care for yes but will nip on LPS and some SPS. So if you are not sure what to keep and what not to keep I wouldn't add one. Other wise they are pretty hardy and easy to keep.

    Sure Grip Magnetic Powerhead Holder

This works great if you've done the maxijet mod. Since you basically change the direction of the flow from the side port to the bottom you need a new way to mount the PH anyway. Using the mag cleaner and some glue should work great.

    Question about hyposalinity

A hyposalinity treatment should be done outside the tank and not to the tank in my opinion. Plus there are better ways to treat ich in a quarantine tank than hyposalinity treatments. Try adding vitamin C and taking the QT tank up to 80-81 degrees. This will both boost and speed up the fish'...

    Lighting overkill?

I would probably put them up a little higher though to keep heat issues to a minimum unless you have a chiller or lots of air flow through fans.

    MH lighting without actinic PC

It seems like a nice option but it's too bad they don't offer higher wattage bulbs.

Are Inverts Safe to Place into Main Tank w/o QT'ing?

Amphipods and copepods are the pods being talked about here. The scooter eats just like a mandarin but may take frozen food as mine did when I had one. It just has to be small enough to fit in it's mouth. Your sailfin should leave the scooter alone as I had both in my tank too and nothing...

    Dirty, silty sand - solution?

First question is how long did you have the first two layers in there? If you stir the sand and it has been in there for a while it will release crap into the water that you don't want and it may hurt your tank.

    Dirty, silty sand - solution?

If it very fine sand then I don't think you have silt. Fine grade sand will stir up quite easily which is why most folks use a medium or coarse grade sand in their tanks. Silt would show up as a fine covering on top of the sand IME. When I had the fine sand in my 55g it looked like a...

    Red Mangrove Question

HOB for mangroves is not a good idea as they would out grow the HOB fuge. This is probably a better set up. http://www.mangrovemania.com/mangrove_aquarium.html There was a picture on the internet once of a guy who had a sump set up next to his tank with mangroves that were almost 3-4 feet...

Is 5ppm NO3 too much, or am I just being anal?

I had an issue with my nitrates being that high and then I changed test kits and it showed less than 5ppm. I was really thrown off then so I took it to the LFS and used a different test kit and it showed 5ppm. So if your nitrates are at the same level no matter what you try, try a different...

    Dreamer/Nightmare 135 gal. Tank Diary(3.12.07 update)

I hope the rock is on the bottom and not on top of the sand? If it is on top of the sand this will cause dead spots which can be bad for the tank. Also if you get any sand sifters or burrowers they can cause the rock to tumble. Nice aquascaping by the way and I don't think it looks dinky.

What to do after tank done cycling?

Sounds like sound advice to me. I'd add the tangs last but all of them at the same time. So in this order: A) Snails B) 2 Cleaner shrimps C) 5 Peppermint shrimps D) 30 Hermit crabs E) 8 Chromis F) 1 Ocellaris Clown G) 1 Regal Tang, 1 Yellow Tang, and 1 Naso Tang

    Over Skimming

What everyone has said is very true. Skimming has nothing to do with calcium but we do need to know about your water changes. If you have so many corals in there that they drain the Ca inless than a week you need to dose or add a calcium reactor.
