I did the same mistake... 9 weeks it took to finally balance out! But now it's a happy tank that has spot on chemistry.

    AI lighting

With my tank having nicely stabilized and all... wondering if my AI LED lighting is set up decently for my plants? I know that standard set up is geard toward saltwater lighting. Any recomendations to the percent of the color spectrums that can be adjusted? Picture is what I have it at now.

    No more ammonia issues but...

Fish in cycle. Originally didn't wait long enough when I set up this tank. Added fish too soon. Was a nightmare for so many weeks. Lost some fish but, seems fish are way more happy now. :)

    No more ammonia issues but...

As some here had seen my post about the excessive ammonia issues I was having, my 9th week suddenly changed in the last few days. Ammonia is finally at zero! pH has been hanging around 6.6 to 6.7 Took a photo of my full tests this morning. pH and Nitrite the same! Nitrites at around 2.0ppm...

Yes, overflow style to a 10 gal sump tank below. The dirty fish were the daughters... re-homed... but yeah, not a happy mix. Hoping to get her own tank soon and move them dirty birds out!

    My 40 gallon

Hoping they do. Lost a few good fish but, have enough to keep it looking like a tank and not a processing plant.

    Must start over.

As some have read previously, my ammonia levels were pretty bad. Today, it has become out of control. I had to use an ammonia test from my company... 26ppm. Unbelievable. Losing fish now. I am going buy a used tank to try and move the remaining fish to this temporary tank. :( I can't...

    Ammonia reduces pH??

As I continue being plagued by dangerously high ammonia levels for reasons I don't know why still.... now I'm battling pH that keeps dropping to 6.0 - 6.4, does my excessively high ammonia cauase this? I'm literally about to give up on this tank. Since my last post about my ammonia levels...

correct, no fish for those 5 weeks. prolly misslead myself with the test results. just confused at how high this test shows for the ammonia... unless it isn't. fish seem fne though, for now anyway.

    Ammonia still a major issue!

This tank was brand new. Substrate was from a freshwater enthusiast. Plants bought from a non-corporate fish store, with excellent quality plants and freshwater/salt water fish.

    Ammonia still a major issue!

I feed them once, lightly... every other day. I do use Prime. I have not touched the gravel when draining in 2 weeks. Haven't touched the filter since putting tank online. So, I'm wondering if my API ammonia test isn't accurate... if I'm using Prime?

    Ammonia still a major issue!

Sounds like I need to research more before doing! It's been 25+ years since maintaining aquariums. :D May need to re-home the gold fish....

    Ammonia still a major issue!

I added bacteria (from Prime) on the initial setup. After the 5th week, my tests showed no ammonia, 0.25ppm nitrites and nitrates 0ppm. I added plants on the 3rd week to which I started showing ammonia (2.0ppm) On that 5th week, added my fish (within a 2 day period) and then snails there...
