What do you feed your puffers?

Just curious and looking for more ideas for my fahaka puffers. Already had a thriving ramshorn/pond snail colony because of my pea puffers. My fahakas, Bonnie and Clyde are still on QT watch for now, but happily eat snails and blood worms. Bonnie is around 2.5 - 3 in, Clyde is more like 3 - 3.5...

    Meet Peaches!

;) thanks! I'm seeing some iridescent blues on the ends of his fins now that he's in a big tank and is coloring up! I think he's going to be a handsome devil once he settles in. (On a side note, my daughter named one of our other Bettas Elsa. Lolol)

    Meet Peaches!

Just wanted to introduce some new fish to everyone. Haven't posted here in a while, but boy do I have multiple tank syndrome. Luckily it is a syndrome my husband and I share! Lol. So meet Peaches! He is in a newly set up 15 gallon column tank (with cycled media plus a cycled intake sponge...

Accidental fish in cycle. [My journey]

I didn't! Managed to keep the levels low enough with water changes.

Empty 36 gallon. What to do.....

So, anyone else want to chime in with their fave fish? Or any suggestions? I'm new-ish to the hobby, so maybe you love something I haven't heard of!

Empty 36 gallon. What to do.....

Yay! That's awesome! That's one of the species I've been looking at as well. Congrats!

Empty 36 gallon. What to do.....

Peat moss container Hatching container Current containers. They hold about 1/2 gallon and they're 1/2 full. And fry pics. Because...fry!

Empty 36 gallon. What to do.....

No problem at all! They arrived in a small container of peat moss. The seller will tell you when they should be put into water. I placed them in a clean Tupperware type bowl (actually it's the one that hillshire farms lunch meats come in.) and added tank water from one of my tanks. (Felt safer...

Empty 36 gallon. What to do.....

The killies are actually new for me. They're only a week old and I got the eggs from a wonderful killie breeder on aquabid. I only bought one set of eggs for the Ntoba, but he sent the other type as well because he said it seemed a waste to only ship one set. Lol. Then when I expressed interest...

Empty 36 gallon. What to do.....

Teenyfish- That's just it, I have absolutely no idea. I know I want something new and fun, but I've not settled on anything. I've been browsing aquabid like a maniac. I thought briefly about doing guppies and selectively breed them until I get a pattern/color I like, but I'm still unsure how I...

Empty 36 gallon. What to do.....

So in the process of succumbing to multiple tank syndrome, moving fish around, learning what we did/didn't enjoy keeping, I've ended up with an empty 36 g tall. Just for more info, heres what I already have. Now for the actual topic of this, before I got off track. I have an empty 36g tall...

Question about moving Betta in with other fish.

Thankfully my hubby and I are both in love with our tanks and since we don't have a single other hobby in common, we both kind of jumped on it! :) We are enjoying it! Alright, well I supposed what I'll do is keep the light time to a minimum until I can get one of the 10g set up. Thanks!

Question about moving Betta in with other fish.

Oh and of course we now have a 75g tank with angels and GBRs. It's currently mini cycling because even though we moved over the cycled filters from the tank they were in, plus added more filtration, it's more than double the size, so it's taking time to catch up. Fun stuff!

Question about moving Betta in with other fish.

Yes I do. The 20g ended up cycled by accident, actually. I reused some of the gravel from one of the other tanks, and it apparently had enough bacteria that it has cycled without ever showing ammonia or nitrites. Nitrate reading is perfect and has stayed perfect for weeks. (With the help of...

Question about moving Betta in with other fish.

So I have a lovely betta named Inu. He quarantined in a 2.5 gallon tank, and once he was healthy, moved into a 36g with mollies and harlequin rasboras. He did wonderfully. Never any nipping between any of them, no flaring or chasing. He even left the red cherry shrimp in there alone. Wellll...

Accidental fish in cycle. [My journey]

Everything is cycled now! Just thought I'd pop in and update everyone! ;) Thanks so much to everyone who helped out with this! And I especially appreciate that no one made me feel bad about it all! You guys are amazing, I'm so glad I discovered this community!!! I'll definitely be posting here...

Accidental fish in cycle. [My journey]

Sponge filter and better heater came in for the 50g today. Also, for two days in a row now, the 65g appears to be cycled. 0ppm of both ammonia and nitrites, 10ppm nitrates. Still struggling with nitrites in the 36g though. Haven't tested the levels yet today, I'm about to gravel vac in the...

Accidental fish in cycle. [My journey]

Oh yes, I've ordered a sponge filter thats rated higher than the tank, once that's good and established I'll be getting an hob or a canister and putting ceramic media and the bioballs inside it, eventually replacing the bioballs with more ceramic media. The sponge filter will be here tomorrow...

Accidental fish in cycle. [My journey]

They appear to be. I haven't opened the filter yet, it's an internal filter. Looks like they did away with the cartridges and replaced them with bioballs. (I've got a sponge filter otw to add in addition to the internal for better mechanical filtration. And lol, I didn't mean adding tank water...

Accidental fish in cycle. [My journey]

For sure. There were a few she thought were still in there that weren't. Right now the danios, the cardinal tetra, the pleco and the catfish are still in the 50g, the glofish, betta and guppy are in the 20g. I'm trying to figure out who needs to go where. Any advice on that please share. Most of...

Accidental fish in cycle. [My journey]

Hee hee. I know. I've ended up with two giant danios, a bristle nose pleco, a brochis catfish, a very large cardinal tetra, a crown tail dumbo ear betta, three glofish and a guppy with a deformed spine, from this venture. What a strange groupie of creatures. Some of which weren't fish I'd...

Accidental fish in cycle. [My journey]

Soooo I was a bad girl. Lol. I was on Facebook marketplace yesterday and saw a 50 gallon tank, fish and everything included.....and I bought it. Part of me couldn't help it. It really wasn't being well taken care of, Andi appear to have developed multi tank syndrome. So now I have it, it's...

Accidental fish in cycle. [My journey]

Ahhh my drinking grade hose and waterbed drawn and fill came in today. Took me less than an hour to do 40% water changes on both tanks!! How wonderful!

Accidental fish in cycle. [My journey]

Well did 25% water changes. The 36g nitrites are hovering between .25-.50ppm The 65g is still giving me a lot of trouble. It's still between 2&5ppm. Closer to five. I'm going to give it a little bit for the water to circulate and do another 25% water change. Ugh. My fish are not looking good...
