    Well well O'dell

I had posted recently when I first joined about acquiring two glass 55g tanks for $45. Well, they were in bad shape because they were used as reptile habitats so they were scratched up. I have worked on one with cerium oxide, spent over 10+ hours going over the inside with a rotary buffer. Some...

Mistakes made with your first tank

Back when I first started I was doing my weekly double check of the heater for safety and accidentally left it at max because my attention got diverted. I basically cooked the fish overnight. I felt so horrible about it for a long time and everyone kept cracking jokes.

    10 gallon

I'd use the 10 as a hospital tank. Everyone needs on for a sick fish sooner or later.

Cory cats not moving or eating

Keep checking and maintaining the water quality with water changes to aid recovery. That twice a week 25% might just not be enough.

    Live plants

Hornwort is nice, but if you're not careful it breaks up into little pieces easily with a rummaging fish. I've had hanging filters in the past that would constantly get clogged up with it.

    2 55 Gallons 1 Guy...throw me ideas.

I was pondering turning one into a pocket change maker. Maybe even grow plants to sell here and there.

Lol, someone like to live dangerously.

    Live plants

Anubias and Java Fern would make a good choice. When I used to keep goldfish when I was just starting out years ago I always went with those.

    White scum?

Do you use a filter start/boost at all?

    Fish keep dying

Curious here. Have you tested the water you've been putting in there? Like straight from the tap? BTW, on the brown algae you might wanna read this. https://pethelpful.com/fish-aquariums/How-to-get-rid-of-Brown-algae-or-Diatoms-in-freshwater-aquaria

Cory cats not moving or eating

Could be stress derived issues due to the aquascape. They might need a better hiding place that's a little darker if there isn't one.

Well, I would walk through a fish store to really figure out what catches me the most, but sadly the last one went out of business here and it was a mom and pop owned and they retired. I mean there is a Petco, but I'd rather not support them being a fish lover. Other than that the nearest fish...

First thing I thought about were some of the Cichlid varieties, but what if everything floats my boat?? This is why I need ideas, haha.

Necessary to sanitize old aquarium for red eared slider?

It's probably fine, but there's probably dust bunnies. I would recommend at minimal using good distilled white vinegar and a soft sponge to scrub the glass. If the pump is a hanging power filter then let some vinegar sit in it for a little bit to loosen any dirt and dried gunk. Even take the...

Hiya everyone! New here, but I've always known of this site, just never made an account before. Been out of the fish keeping game for over 10 years due to where I live, but I moved recently so It's no longer an issue. Last month I nabbed me two 55 gallons for $45 in a driveway one day going...
