    Melafix and Pimafix

Sorry I haven't listed my water parameters. I just have a general question about Melafix and Pimafix. Is it okay to stop using them after 2 days? Two days ago, I started medicating my main tank for a sick glowlight tetra but she got so weak I moved her to my hospital tank, where she isn't...

    Glowlight Tetra's Belly Bursted

    That's what I'll do. Thanks.

    Glowlight Tetra's Belly Bursted

Thanks. Do you think I need to use the flake food at all for the other fish or just the sinking pellets that both will get?

    Glowlight Tetra's Belly Bursted

Thank you. Can I feed the flake food for the glowlights and the pellets for the corrys at the same feeding time? I have only 2 corrys so should I break up the pellet into a smaller portion?

    Glowlight Tetra's Belly Bursted

Update I had the Glowlight euthanized two days ago. I don't take euthanasia lightly and dreaded making that decision. But as far as I could tell, my choice was to euthanize her or watch her slowly starve to death. Even the Melafix rep said Melafix would not fix the problem I described to him...

    Glowlight Tetra's Belly Bursted

Even the guy at the tropical fish store said it would be a miracle if she survives. He'd never heard of such a case but seemed fascinated by it. I'll continue watching her like a hawk (maybe that's the wrong expression!) to monitor her condition. For the time being, she's doing better than...

    Glowlight Tetra's Belly Bursted

Thank you for that dose of reality. It put it all in perspective for me. I'll give her a little time as you said. I will hope for the best but expect the worst.

    Glowlight Tetra's Belly Bursted

Yes, humanely euthanizing her has crossed my mind. My only hesitation is not knowing what really popped out of her body. If it was something other than her stomach, maybe the Melafix can heal the wound in time for her to eat. Wishful thinking, perhaps?

    Glowlight Tetra's Belly Bursted

Update I tried feeding the sick Glowlight a few brine shrimp this evening. She ate them but they came right out of her belly. She reate them and they came out again. I'm starting to wonder if the membrane sac at the bottom of the tank was her stomach. Is it even possible for a stomach to...

    Glowlight Tetra's Belly Bursted

DESCRIPTION OF ILLNESS I have 5 Glowlight Tetras. One is sick. On 1/19/08, I noticed a swelling on her underbelly the size of a small pea. I moved her from 20-gallon community tank to 5-gallon hospital tank. Shortly thereafter, I noticed loose skin hanging from her underbelly and the swelling...

Can a fish laying on the bottom be fed?

I know you're all probably right... I guess I've got a decision to make. I wish there was some kind of nutrient that could be added to water that fish could absorb through their skins. The Fungus Clear definitely helped the corys and I know it could help this guy with time. BTW, moved...

Can a fish laying on the bottom be fed?

He is able to move and jump up a little. I think he's trying to swim. I've seen him lay on his side as well as on his back and he is breathing heavily. I put some frozen blood worms right over him tonight. Some of the blood worms landed close to him but I can't say whether or not he ate any. As...

Can a fish laying on the bottom be fed?

I have a bad fin/tail rot situation. My water perimeters are basically the same as listed in this topic: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/viewtopic.php?t=96036 Last Sunday, I discovered a glow light tetra laying on the floor of my main tank. It was still alive so I moved it to my hospital tank...

    Help...resilient fin and tail rot!

I am amazed at some of the beautiful photos I've seen on this site. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get a clear photo with my digital camera. :( It doesn't focus well through water, making my fish look like blurry smudges. There might be another setting I could use. I'll have to check my manual...

    Help...resilient fin and tail rot!

Thanks, Zagz. :D Today I started treating my 5 gallon hospital tank with Maracyn-Two. Because this has been such a tough illness to tackle, I'm planning on treating the hospital tank for 10 days instead of 5. I also started treating my 20 gallon main tank with a Melafix/Pimafix combination...

    Help...resilient fin and tail rot!

I bought Maracyn-Two to use in the hospital tank. The directions say to add 2 packets per 10 gallons of water (I have 5 gallon tank, so it would be 1 packet) on the first day. For the second to fifth day, add 1 packet (half a packet for my tank). Then it says to repeat this 5 day treatment if...

    Help...resilient fin and tail rot!

I appreciate the info! One thing I'm kind of concerned about is that the 3 aeneus corys are much more active than the 3 elegan corys so I hope the 5 gallon hospital tank won't be too small for them. But at least it will be for their own good. In addition to that, ever since I netted the 3...

    Help...resilient fin and tail rot!

Thanks for the advice! Sorry I don't have an ammonia test kit. Is it true that if the nitrite level is 0, there is probably no ammonia? I use AmQuel as a dechlorinator. Lately I've been using distilled water in combination with treated tap water because it has less alkalinity than my tap water...

    Help...resilient fin and tail rot!

Help! I have resilient fin rot affecting 6 of my 11 fish! :( I first noticed it last August with my 3 corydoras elegans. I treated my tank with Melafix. When I didn't see improvement, I moved the 3 elegans to a hospital tank and continued treating them with Melafix (which didn't work), and...

    Corydoras elegans fin rot?

Thanks, Devilishturtles. It's so sad to lose a fish. Now for happier news--the corys are doing great. They love being back in the main tank and they are much more active now. Most importantly, their tails have definitely shown regrowth. I've even noticed what looks like a small area of...

    Corydoras elegans fin rot?

The glow light died some time over the night. Considering all his problems, it's probably for the best. May James Bond rest in peace.

    Corydoras elegans fin rot?

Appreciate your supportive words, Devilishturtles. Thanks for reassuring me I didn't do anything wrong. It means a lot to me. When I came home from work, James Bond (the glow light) wasn't swirling around with the current anymore. He's fairly stationary at the top although he has been able to...

    Corydoras elegans fin rot?

Thanks, Devilishturtles! I put the cories back in the main tank tonight. They seem so happy to be back home! Unfortunately, my little glow light seems to have swim bladder now. He's floating with the water current inside my hospital tank. He was swimming fine this morning so I don't know what...

    Corydoras elegans fin rot?

I have medicated the corys for 11 days and the glow light for 8 days with tetracycline. Do you think it would be safe to move the corys back to the main tank? I'm a little concerned that the glow light might have infected them with something although I see no sign of that. As for the glow...

    Corydoras elegans fin rot?

I appreciate your concern! :) Last night I took a closer look at the tetra with a magnifying glass. One side of his face and the front of his face was red and lumpy and looked deformed! 8O I noticed he wasn't opening and closing his mouth like other glow lights. He wouldn't be able to eat...
