My blood parrot was fine last night. I come in this morning and his eye is hanging out. He lives with loaches and they are fine. Does anyone know what this is and what to do? He is five years old.
55 gallon tank running for five years. Tank at 79degrees. I dumped 70 percent of the tank...
Thank you for the reply.
I found him floating at the bottom of the tank. At least he didn’t suffer much and it was quick. I think I knew it was bad because no one else is sick. I’m worried about the other tank mate he has been with since a fry and will eventually have to get another one. I’m...
Hi,
My blood parrot started to look a little weird a few days ago. He started turning white and looked lethargic and is breathing heavily. Yesterday I thought he looked really bad so I dumped 80% of the tank and started Kanaplex. I don’t know if the water chemistry will be accurate. Today I...
Thank you for the reply and for sending over the loach info.
I had written an earlier post and didn’t get any answers so I called Seachem. I will paste the previous post at the bottom here with pics. Seachem told me that Metroplex or Kanaplex was fine but if I was worried to do half the dose...
I need to treat a syndontis catfish and two blood parrots for fin rot and possible ich. I have three Blue Botia loaches in the tank they seem unaffected. Is it safe to use Metronidazole with them in the tank? If not what meds are safe for them?
Thank you
Hi,
I noticed some lesions on my blood parrots the other day. The smaller fish has always had some scarring on him since the day I got him. I noticed some white flecks in the tail that’s why I am concerned. The big one has what looks like ulcers on his face. Nothing on the body of these two...
Hi,
A few days ago I noticed a white spot on my Betta’s head.
My first thought was he had brushed against a decoration and knocked off some scales. Today I see another tiny spot appeared so I’m not so sure what it is. He still has a voracious appetite and seems normal. He lives with guppies and...
@ King Fisher Wouldn’t regular tap water be better than purified? Wouldn’t purified have some of the essential minerals taken out?
@BkiniBottom I have the Aqueon 20 on one of my tanks. The blue grid next to your filter cartridge is your bio media grid which will collect the beneficial...
What kind of water are you using? What water additives?
Also what kind of filtration?
How are the Tetras doing after you did the water change?
I’m not sure if we can tag others to this post to offer their input but I just wanted to say King Fisher, V227, Ashenwelt and Goatnad have all helped...
That’s a good idea. I’ll have to make something like that.Mine got spoiled on the sinking carnivore pellets and will spit out anything else. I’d like to get some roughage into his diet. Before I got the catfish I was using a veggie clip with a suction cup. I stopped using that because it was to...
Hi,
I’m sorry about your fish.
Just a few questions
When you say you acclimated them to your water did you cycle the tank?
How old is the tank?
Do you have a water test kit on hand?
What temp is the water?
Where the fish healthy and then suddenly died?
For right now without knowing anything...
This was very helpful thank you. I had noticed that my fish used to be super dark and was now very light colored. I just thought he was getting lighter as he got older. I didn’t think anything about stress. I’ve been having a algae outbreak for about as long as this has been going on so perhaps...
Hi,
I just wanted to ask about my Lace Catfish. I’m not sure if this is just new skin growing or something else.
He is about six months old. A few months after I got him I noticed he was always scraping himself on things. Really long deep scrapes. I’m not sure how he is doing this because I’ve...
As far as the Eheim is concerned after I watched a few videos my dumbass discovered it has both a red current temperature setting arrow to set and then a blue ring to turn. The instructions mentioned nothing of this. So with me adjusting only the blue dial I know I threw it out of wack and now...
My filters outlet is pretty much the middle of the water. Not near any sides of the tank. There really wasn’t a lot of space I could put it. If I put it in the middle back wall then it wouldn’t have any water flow whatsoever. I don’t think the water flow would reach it if I stuck it on the very...
I guess it’s possible that I might have gotten three bad heaters. They all came from Amazon at around the same time. There was definitely something wrong with the 300 watt though.
The tank lid is very very thin and cheap. I’m considering getting a new sturdier one. The lid came with cutout...
My heater died about two weeks ago on one of the coldest nights of the year. I had been using Marina heaters on all my tanks. Even though I know they are cheap they have always been reliable or so I thought.
I had a Marineland (I think) heater that came with the tank. It was very cheap no temp...
Just regular community tank no breeding.
I figured I’d check the GH and KH as I’ve never done so before. My tap water can sometimes have a lot of junk in it so I thought I’d check those levels. I wasn’t sure what range I needed to be in.
Sorry for the late reply.
The Instructions that came with the API test kit said that for the fish I had I needed to lower both GH and KH. It gave different species of fish and recommended ranges for them. The numbers I had were according to them out of range.
I just bought an API GH and KH test kit. For the GH I got 7 drops which says it equals 125.3 and for the KH I got a 10 which equals 179.
I have Blue Botia, Blood Parrots an Algae eater and a juvenile Bichir. From what I can gather from the fish range recommendations it looks like I need to...
I’m going to have to run a tape measure from the tank to the kitchen sink and then from the tank to the outside tap.Initially I didn’t think a python could reach that far but I’ll do actual measurements. The kitchen faucet has a piece that screws off so I guess that means I can get a python on...
