    Plant Safety 101

For me, A few days in a quarantine tank with algaefix will clear any algae (of most types) and snails as well. Also gives time to keep an eye for other oddities. Then introduce to properly balanced tank. There are those who keep a completely algae sterile tank, not me, but just a different...

How to increase effectiveness of CO2 bubbles?

Oh yeah, I missed that you were running a fluval. I had the exact same problem with my 206, a filter that served me very well for like 15 years. I was going to try these adapters out that other folks said would do the job. Does your output have a duck bill fitting on it like this? Perhaps that...

    CO2.

It's true, no need to get too extravagant with this stuff, but I should note - the mc122 is a super help in maintaining consistent co2 levels, I saw a post from you on another thread about how too maintain levels... meant to follow up. OP I used an ista brand paintball regulator with integrated...

    CO2.

There were some good starter co2 equipment ideas in this thread. http://www.aquariumadvice.com/forums/showthread.php?t=356758 I now run a GLA regulator on a 20lb tank with a Milwaukee mc122 controller and a ista reactor, but I found paintball setups a great place to start. If it's a small tank...

How to increase effectiveness of CO2 bubbles?

I like my max mix reactor ($17), but if you don't have space an inline diffuser may work in less space. If I were going inline I'd use this glass one, but this plastic one is smaller, and I've heard good things about it. You may find you lose co2 if you feed bubbles to your intake as chemical...

    Help needed... name the plant!

Sure :) For sharing pics, I usually upload it to a photo hosting site and then copy the link into my post using the "insert image" button. Or, use the Aquarium Advice app from Google play / app store to share a pic directly from cell phone. You may have already tried that, but that's what works...

    First time planted aquarium

I always considered eco to be more of a lava rock (basalt) makeup and the others like aquasoil to be clay based. But I suppose it's hard to tell. Always wanted to try Tahitian Moon Sand. Sands do look nice.

Hydrogen peroxide dosage? / Algae treatment

An alternative whole tank treatment is AlgaeFix which I have found very effective with no side effects. Not good for shrimp / snails.

    Does osmacote work for plants

found couple months back, the 200ct doesn't pull up on search for osmo, but for "aquarium root tabs". Folks on other forum give thumbs up for this product / seller... haven't ordered personally.

    Looking for a light

You may find that it gives you better color, brings out tropical fish colors. I used these when I had fluorescent fixtures. You will also find these type of bulbs at big box pet stores and I've seen aquatic bulbs at H Depot as well. You may want to verify that it's a t8 bulb...

    First time planted aquarium

Wow, it looks like ADA! Very cool. ...so at 2 inch eco,1 inch soil, do roots tend to find their way through the eco to the soil and then spread? I'd love to go walstad next tank. Ppl seem to love it.

    First time planted aquarium

...I've always been curious about walstad... did it get messy? Like has been said, you may just want focus on getting your light,co2,ferts right for now. If you've already purchased eco, I vote +1 on that as a good substrate alone.

    First time planted aquarium

Like flchamp said, finer particles go to the bottom over time. Just don't put your eco over the sand to start, that would cause problems. I think eco is good at taking nutrients from your system and making them available to the roots. (the utility of CEC, rt?) I believe it's the most...

My bad, Is it ADA Aquasoil that has nutrients?

    First time planted aquarium

If your sand has been there a while then a lot of your beneficial bacteria are living in there, so you may consider doing half the tank, then other half later especially if you only got 1 or 2 bags of eco complete. You want to keep 2-3" substrate depth. 4 bags of Ecocomplete will give you a...

    First time planted aquarium

Keep in mind plenty of ppl successfully keep plants with low light and only liquid co2 (ex: flourish excel) so you don't HAVE to invest so much to get into plants if you don't want to.

The pros of the cartridge kit are that it is a complete set to get you started and you can get 2 cartridges for like 12 bucks. Also, down the road you can get the "Hydra Aquatic CO2 Paintball Adapter" which will allow you to use the much larger (24oz+) paintball tanks that you can refill at...

    Looking for a light

You may consider an aquatic bulb. Assuming it's t8 something like this: A1587 40-Watt Aqua-Glo Fluorescent Bulb, 48-Inch

...and also a rhino drop checker... BUT remember equipment and plants don't get you a planted tank, RESEARCH and HUSBANDRY get you a planted tank. Otherwise you'll likely end up with a glorified turf scrubber.

When I started out I got a paintball co2 setup from amazon which can be filled at the sporting goods store. I ran it at 5 bubbles / second on a $6 timer respective to the light on a timer, 8 hrs / day. I got the Nilocg micros / macros simple fertilizer pack that what easy to dose by just pumping...
