    Guppy Fry

What does one do with guppy fry when your guppies start mass producing?

    Low Nitrates

Have a planted, well stocked 55 gal aquarium that has been going for a few months now. The current light is a 36" Marineland that I am wanting to replace soon as it's not lighting up enough of the tank. I did my weekly test this morning prior to a water change and came up with 0 on the Nitrates...

Tetras can be so similar-Golden Pristella Tetras

They do look very similar. A very pretty fish in its own right.

    Fishless cycling stage help

The advice I received here that worked well is to continue to daily water changes with high nitrite and nitrate readings. Dose the ammonia back after every change.

    Cycling question

Do a large water change and keep adding ammonia until the nitrites start disappearing.

    Hi I'm dan

Is it sitting on chairs? Those legs don't look strong enough to support that kind of weight for long.

    I'm so confused and frustrated!

I would trust the liquid test kits before I would a disk hanging in the tank. ymmv

Oops. Guess the girl at the LFS can't count. It's 8 cherry barb. Lol

    Fishless cycling

Went with 7 cherry barb, 7 glow light, & 4 Skunk cory. Nobody of the 4 LFS I went to in 2 cities had the other cories or a breeding pair of gourami.

It is a blend of old(read used) flourite black sand and red rock and a bag or two of new Nat Geo black and white sand.

    Fishless cycling

My pH out of the tap is 8.2-8.4. I just tested all 4 parameters at 10am this morning after dosing back to 4ppm at 6pm last evening. Results are: pH - 8.0 steady from the last time I checked it on May 29th ammonia - 0 nitrite - 0 nitrate -80 Planning on a 50-75% water change this afternoon...

    Fishless cycling

Thank you. I added back to 4ppm earlier today. I think I'm going shopping tomorrow. Never having done a fishless I've never known exactly how many or when to add fish.

    First time fishless

Oh, I'm having no doubts of that. She wants glo danio so I want to make sure it's 100% ready for a full on bio load before making the purchase

    First time fishless

This aquarium is being painstakingly slow. It's holding 0 nitrites, but it's only reduced ammonia by 1/2 every 24 hours.

    Fishless cycling

No test yesterday but the aquarium was dosed with ammonia at about 7:00pm. A nitrite test at 11:00am this morning shows 0 nitrites. Is dosing back to 4ppm just once a day sufficient until I'm able to go buy a full stock of fish?

    Fishless cycling

Yesterday after 48 hours had a test of 0, 0, 80.... Today, less than 24 hours after dosing ammonia back to 4ppm and no water change it was again 0,0,80. I do belive this one is ready for fish! Whenever I figure out what to put in it that is. [emoji3]

    Gallons/litres.

Yes. Ammonia turns into Nitrites and then the Nitrites become Nitrates.

    First time fishless

Today's results after a 24 hour shift yesterday so it was 48 hours of sitting before this test. First time with 0 ammonia in a test. Dosed up again today and fingers crossed for similar results over the next week. Patience is key.

    Fishless cycling

Having worked a 24 hour shift yesterday I was unable to test. Today's results have me very excited!! Another week of dosing and getting these results I will feel super comfortable calling the tank cycled for a full stocking of fish.

    yesterday's test versus today's test

Yes, Yes, Yes, & Yes. All of these are a matter of time.

    yesterday's test versus today's test

Can agree with that too, but if you read he's been calling the light green from the tank as 0 because that's what his tap is. Unless I've missed something he's not had a clean yellow 0 reading from the aquarium prior to a water change.

    yesterday's test versus today's test

Because there are bacteria processing the ammonia faster than the other bacteria are processing the ammonia. Looks kinda like this... One I'm currently doing a fishless cycle in.
  24. C

    yesterday's test versus today's test

I would think no. The bacteria should take all ammonia to 0 regardless of your tap water.

    Fishless cycling

Still quickly turning over the ammonia and showing high Nitrites. Today the Nitrates were through the roof. Hopefully that's a good sign that things are about to turn. Now I'm starting to look for stocking ideas for this 29g. I've got a pretty good idea that I want some tetra of some sort...
