That’s a bladder or pond snail. Most people will say they are pest snails. They breed like rabbits and can over run your tank in no time. If you don’t want that to happen, I’d get rid of it.

Pics aren’t working but it sounds like trumpet snails. They hide in your substrate during the day and are active mostly at night. Thier shells are pointy like ice cream cones. They breed like rabbits. If you don’t want your tank over run, I’d invest in a snail trap or better yet, an assassin snail.

I have high phosphates and have had problems with algae, as well. Only thing I have tried that has helped is a seachem product called Phosguard. It’s small little beads that soak up the phosphates. You put them in a media bag and place it in your filter. Lasts about a month. Something to look into.
