    Weird bubbles

Soap? You said you are new to the hobby, so hopefully you aren't offended of I ask if you used soap to clean something and then put it back in?

Adding Betta to my Tank with Platys and Mollies?

I have just a few young/small mollies together with a sort of agressive male betta. It's 20 gallons. I agree that your 10 gallon one is full, and adding a betta would probably be pretty bad news. So, I learned a few things while deciding who would be roommates in my 2 separate 20 gallon...

    New Hobby

I guess it says something about my sons that they weren't observant enough to notice how many dozens of fry there were and how few ended up living. They were so small and fast that my kids enjoyed it but were ambivalent to the "eating the offspring" issue. :)

    Nitrite poisoning??

So does it mean anything if they list different chemicals on the label? Curious.

    Nitrite poisoning??

I am not an expert, but I have the most experience with bettas out of any fish. I defer to anyone who says they know a specific reason why what I'm saying is inaccurate, HOWEVER, I truly thing you should move your better until you get it under control. Too many things can happen to it while it...

    Instant glue

I also saw some natural, self-dissolving string on Amazon for this purpose. Has anyone ever tried using this stuff? I was surprised to see it existed and assumed it must be necessary sometimes.

    New Hobby

Kclee, I'm in exactly the same spot! I started two 20g for my sons. So fun (and addictive). One thing we have really enjoyed is having livebearers that get pregnant. Fun to learn about the reproductive cycle, and a good learning experience for kids.

Finding it Impossible to Find Long Tanks

Did you ever find a long tank? If not, we have Petsmart here in Colorado, and they have an unusual amount of long tanks.

    Should I upgrade my tank?

I would. At least 10 or 20 gallons. The Betta might be clean and happy with 5, but with 2 frogs I think they will all be cleaner and happier with a larger home. Since bettas can be healthy and happy wth less filtering than some fish, you can probably use the same heater and filter you have on...

    Made a mistake!!

Also, temperature? Do you keep thermometers? I wonder if they are cold and/or also in shock from that change.

    Jack dempsey

Looks like you have done a really good job making places to hide. I personally wouldn't worry a bit.

    Feeding

I use the smallest sinking pellets I can find with the right ingredients for the small breed (.5, I think). So, some will get past the top feeders and get down to your little guy. Don't worry, tho, they have survival instincts and chances are he really is eating.

    Stocking a 10 gallon?

DEFINITELY take into consideration the food your fish will eat. Many foods will kill shrimp if they contain copper and/or effect the ph the wrong way. I've heard bettas do really well with shrimp; betta will consider the top few inches his/her territory, and the shrimp, of course, will...

Mistakes made with your first tank

I didn't start so terribly long ago, so I can remember all my rookie mistakes very easily. 1) I bought the lies that betters don't really need clean water, filter, or space. :( 2) I added too Many fish at once. 3). I tried to get away with changing water without a "vacuum" tube (don't do it)...

Do you have anyone in there who eats algae? Snail? Pleco? Other vegetarian fish?

    Newbie Native Tank Questions

Fun project! I'd start very slow and put in 3 small fish first. Let water adjust a few weeks, then add one or two tank mates. Your first fish will be adjust and help the water to mature, perhaps. Another thought I had in terms of compatible chemistry: Can you use some of the lake water as a...

I second the tetra recommendation... someone colorful with someone albino! :)

    best gravel or substrate?

beware "natural" color small gravels... If you go with gravel, be careful with anything that is light colored or white. I followed directions and rinsed it very thoroughly when starting and it still gave me a hassle with cloudy water. Also, I've learned that I prefer to choose a substrate...

    Stocking a 20 gallon

I have a 20 long also, and I have a variety of mollies in it. Also, I like a betta plus neon tetras (maybe 6 of them) in a shallow-ish tank (which I consider the 20 long to be). The betta plus tetras is a very clean tank for me. Have you had a tank before? If not, don't skimp on the heater...

Betty's for several years, now mollies and tetras...

Hello! As I indicated in my title, I have had small aquarium experience with betas only for years-- love them. My kids and I now keep 2 different 20gal. tanks, plus a 5.5 gal. as a breeding tank, hospital tank, or vacation tank. ;). My creamsicle molly just dropped 12 fry. Fun! My first...

So were there improvements after you had the LeD light?

5 week old tank - cloudy water

I'm having similar issues. I do wonder if the sunlight has something to do with it. Doesn't real sunlight make bacteria and algae more likely to bloom? So frustrating!
