I would go with the BakPak and the Live rock. I have a bak pak and speak from expereince with it. It is a very good (if not the best, in my opinion)

The clear animal sounds possibly like a nudibranch. Just a guess.

Looks like a club tip to me. I could be wrong though. Very strong sting. Actually the tips are so sticky it will tear your skin if you touch it.

I usually feed him a fresh prepaired herbivore food that had a mix of brine shrimp mysid shrimp nori and it had some other kind of sea plant in it. I also feed it a dry nori preperation but it still died. Thanks though for your comments.

I had a similar problem and best thing I ever did was get a UV sterilizer. 15watt on a 55gallon tank.

What I have done is turn the temp up on the tank, it will make the ick go through its life cycle quicker and die of before it can harm the fish. I have tried it and it works well for me very well.

Just a thought when I cycle my tanks I use green chromis and they seem to work real well. If you want fish in the tank during the cycle they are nice fish to use because you can keep them in your tank after the cycle and they are pretty peaceful.
