Aquarium not been right ever since house move

I moved house about 18 months ago, the fish all made the trip successfully and I quickly set the tank up again, I kept as much of the original tank water as possible and all the substrate/decor & filter medium, all of which was kept wet during the move too. For several months all the fish seemed...

    Guppy got stuck, now gasping.

I did the water change in a panic hoping it'd get more oxygen into the water, oops. He's still at the top gasping this morning, he's not completely idle though, he swims back and forth across the surface, dips down every now and again. The other 2 guppies are fine. Its a 8g tank with just the...

    Guppy got stuck, now gasping.

I got home from work today to find one of my 3 guppies had wedged himself between the pump and the glass, no idea how long he'd be there but I moved the pump straight away and he broke free, seems able to swim fine. However I've noticed he is now gasping at the top of the water constantly, the...

New tank, male guppy relentlessly chasing another.

Glad its not just mine then! I was planning on getting another 2 male guppies later on but I wanted to start with just the two and check my levels etc so I know I'm not going to overwhelm my biofilter. Hoping that getting another 2 males might even out the power struggle a bit since there won't...

New tank, male guppy relentlessly chasing another.

My ph has remained the same 7.6 throughout the entire cycle and it still remains at 7.6 so its stable. I have some artificial plants and decor which they do pick at but its all in the lower 1/3 of the tank. Wouldn't introducing females mean I'm potentially going to have some reproduction...

New tank, male guppy relentlessly chasing another.

So I've got a new cycled tank, levels are good, no ammo or nitrite and only a small amount of nitrate. I got a pair of male guppies yesterday to start it off, for the first 6 hours or so they were happily exploring the tank and swimming about until one of them (slightly larger) keeps following...

    High Ammonia + High NitrAte

I've been leaving the tank to its own devices and bingo! About 15ppm of nitrAtes, 0 nitrites and 0.5ppm of ammonia. I'm going to take a sample to my local aquarium tomorrow and check the results they get. If I can shift that last bit of ammo we should be golden

    High Ammonia + High NitrAte

Well I did a few more water changes which wasn't really yielding much but I've just left it for 2 days and ammonia is now on the chart at 5.5-6ppm. Nitrites are at 0 and Nitrates are down to 15-20ppm so I just need to wait for that ammonia to die off.

    High Ammonia + High NitrAte

Over 24hrs later and ammonia still off chart (haven't added any) looks about the same shade as yesterdays so I'm guessing about 8ppm. Temp is up at 28c, nitrItes even lower at maybe 1ppm, nitrAtes at about 40ppm so slightly better on that front. Going to try another 50% water change and test my...

    High Ammonia + High NitrAte

Heater has been on but relatively low, about 23c, I've cranked it to 27c to see if it helps things along. I've done a 50% water change, I won't add any ammonia and I'll see what the levels are tomorrow.

    High Ammonia + High NitrAte

Thanks, I'd not thought of testing my source water. Its free of nitrItes but does have a small amount of nitrAtes in it, maybe 15ppm? I'm going to do a water change and see how it affects things.

    High Ammonia + High NitrAte

Newbie here, probably get questions like this time and time again... I'm a week into my fishless cycle, I've been doing 4ppm of ammonia once a day, I tested today and it seems to have gone through the roof for some reason! Ammonia off the scale, I'd say its 8ppm? My nitrItes are low at 2.5ppm...
