Best way to get Nitrates down

Food and waste is going to fall between the pebbles and rot down. Fish and plants can't do much with it because they can't get to it. You'd be much better using a different substrate underneath. Then instead of covering the entire bottom with pebbles, place them in clusters so you can still...

    Outflow pipe leak nightmare

Hi paul. Just noticed the jubilee clip. You dont need that but that could be a cause. Those valves are plastic and if you have tightened it down too much you could have cracked the valve fitting where the pipe attaches. Like i said check the pipe end for damage, trim back if you need to, soak...

    Outflow pipe leak nightmare

So is it leaking from the hoses? I usually soak the ends of the pipes in boiling water for about 30secs before pushing them on to the valves, then i screw them down. It gives a better seal as the pipe is softer. If its just leaking from the outflow pile znd not the actual filter head then its...

    Mollies keep dying

Hi. Dsm is dry start method. Most api test kits only test for ph, amonia, nitrite and nitrates. The fact they are all zero says its not cycled yet. Your filter needs time to establish good bacteria too. There is no point adding loads of stuff to speed it up because the more you add the more risk...

    Mollies keep dying

Before anything, "don't add anymore fish". You NEED to let your tank cycle first. Everything is new, let it settle down. This can take weeks so dont rush. What have you planted the seeds in? It looks like ada soil

    Mollies keep dying

Hi. Looking at your pics you have an api mater kit. Reading your post you've done a dsm in a new tank, filled it once your carpet has grown, waited a few days then added fish. You have had clear test results for a few days then your fish died. Have i got that right?

    Ph crisis

May be worth getting your water tested for other things too at your lfs. Phosphates, gh and kh. Start with your big water changes first and cut your feeding right down

    Ph crisis

Ok can see a few big issues already. You are way over feeding them. Once every few days is enough. You have added a huge lump of wood after your water started settling down. I hate to say it but the rest will probably die too. You should always wait before adding fish. The wood will be leeching...

    Ph crisis

Hi. You need to do some big water changes, at least 50% every few days. Buffers are fine but you'll need to find a cause of why its staying high. A pic and some details of your routine would help. Lighting times, feeding, how often you clean it and do water changes, what subtrates, rock...

    need help fast

Cardinal tetras are normally safer due to size difference but can still get attacked by angels. A guy i just did a tank for had the same problem. He ignored advice and his angels where huge and ate all of his neons & rumynose tetras too. Its best do do plenty of research before buying fish.

    Strange algae in freshwater tank?

That looks very much like staghorn algae. From experience its horrible to get rid of. I have had to strip tanks and start fresh in the past. If its just your plants and you can get them out easily. 1) You can bleach dip them- 1 part bleach, 5 part water. Few seconds in soak then rinse a lot...

    Help with Algae

Its learning all the routines that is the hardest part and keeping on top of it. Loads of info and a wealth of knowlege on here but my tip as always been "keep it simple". Very easy to get bogged down with advice that can sometimes blind you with science.

    Help with Algae

Hi buddy. The thing is, you "could" do a very weak bleach dip but you run the risk of putting it in your tank, same with weak soapy water. Hydrogen when mixed in water it converts to o2 so wont harm the fish. Its great stuff and easy to use. Put it in a spray bottle and blitz it. Cover it all...

    Help with Algae

Thats your problem. Feeding too much and lights on too long. I would do 50% a week for a few weeks. Feed every 2 days and cut lights to about 8/9 hrs. If you can get those rocks out easily you can spray them with hydrogen peroxide, leave for 30mins, scrub with a stiff brush then put them back...

    Help with Algae

How often are you feeding, doing water changes etc and are you running co2, over dosing ferts maybe? & what is your lighting period?

    Any ideas?

Some but at least it will be easier to eat

    Any ideas?

Crush them between 2 spoons. The pellets not the neons lol

    Ammonia levels won't go down

Better to get the basics right first to save issues in the long term. Else it will keep happening.
