Thank you so much. I saw fade coming and we fed him via syringe with brine shrimp then my hand. It worked!

    He’s healed!

In February we went on a trip and left our four-year-old Oscar (Ollie) in the care of another. When we returned we found him nearly dead from fin rot & hole in the head. He had a deadly looking white scum on his body which i later identified as calcite. Seems our caretaker had fed him feeder...

    SOS in my tank :(

Look for the one that has whole fins and look virtually untouched. Cichlids sometimes get aggressive as they get older especially with other species of Cichlids they strive with in the wild. They are very territorial on average and this increases as they get to breeding size & age. Also if a...

Oscar on the mend - Day 40

Thank you for your concern. I travel at times and was gone 3 weeks, we had a relative feed and look after the tank during our absence...he had aquariums but only a basic knowledge of Oscars. When I returned I observed the fin rot on his lateral fins and bloat but it was not a moderate case...

Oscar on the mend - Day 40

My Oscar is a foot long was stricken with fin rot and hole-in-the-head. The parasite had burrowed a hole in his bottom just past his gill plate. He had the white pallor of death. This condition hit fast & hard, my wife and I acted the same way fast & way! I immediately started a regiment of...

Anyone seen any article or comments on whether blue night LEDs affect bacterial photo effects to the positive or negative?

Thanks for the narratives though I’ve been in the hobby a while my thinking is I haven’t arrived and I learn for all input. I enjoy reading yours, I learn from your experiences...years ago there wasn’t near the varieties we have today... I’ve bred Egyptian mouth breeders and others more by...

    Blue Eyed Lemon Bristlenose Pleco

Thos fins would be a yummy lunch in many tanks but he is no doubt a stunner. I’m using an iPad 2017 9.7. Laying it flat against the aquarium glass I’ve gotten decent shots. I’m learning the advanced settings thru a series of videos called Apple Photography School. I never knew my iPhone/ipad...

    Feeding time!

I use meal worms as well. What’s your feeling on them. You can control individual growth by tank population (except Oscars..lol) as well. I had to fatten them up after they were malnourished at Walmart. All are filling out well. They seem prefer baby shrimp the best and of course TetraMin. I...

    Feeding time!

No problems yet I’ve always favored several small feedings over large ones. Do you use meal worms? I use beef-heart ground and pressed out for the Oscars. My butcher presses it flat on to wax paper for storage. The Ciclids get the small pieces. None of it drops to mid level of the tank....lol

Cool! Sounds like your display is lively! Thank for the info on glow fish...seems they need special food as well... I’ll take natural colors myself. Might be nice as for a novelty tank setup. I’m getting my wife a tank, she fell in love with mine. Told I’d help but all decisions on decor are...

There’s a lot of ignorant people out there that don’t consider what they do to God’s living creatures they are stewards of. But as hobbyist we try to educate but many times it falls on deaf ears. Being a retired infantryman 26 yrs I’ve seen intense cruelty to animals especially in Muslim and...

Thank you. I found if I put my iPad against the glass and put the camera on burst I get some good pics. Here my pleco and shark purposely blurred and the dorsal lines came out sexy...lol

Whoa! I never said you stressed your purchases. I said I wouldn’t drive that far and risk it, big difference. I know my limitations not yours. I can’t speak to your SOP only mine. Yes, fish are shipped long distances but definitely not in single bags knotted at the top! A trip in the shippers...

When you are on constant deployments it’s hard to properly care for my aquariums. Back then I had 11 tanks 6 were display tanks the other were medication and breed tanks. I was Force Recon so eventually I could not care for my tanks because of deployment and training scheduling. I never stayed...

You’ve hit upon a valuable truth. I think we aquarium hobbyist should educate rather than criticize. As I posted earlier I had a talk with a Walmart manager who was receptive to the points I made on better his fish dept, a few of the things I observed to him were: + how I observed staff bagging...

It’s all good... how do you know how many they kill... and how do Know know some dedicated shops don’t kill as many comparing-ratio to ratio. I know there is a “Walmart is the devil” faction out there. Fine. It’s a free country. I’ve bred Ciclids of all types and always dreamed of running my own...
